Notre Dame has a new indoor track state champion, wrestling qualifies two to CIAC State Open Meet, basketball wins their senior night game, and hockey plays top-ranked Fairfield Prep tough.
Indoor Track —Nick Petruzzelli sure made his final indoor track performance of his high school career was one to remember. Petruzzelli cleared 14-feet to not only win the CIAC State Open Championship held on Saturday at the New Haven Athletic Center but also surpassing his own school record he set just two weeks ago in the process. The indoor track season is now complete.
Wrestling — Connor Massey and Derrick Pommills, Jr. were Notre Dame’s two highest finishers as the wrestling team finished 17th at the 2018 CIAC Class L Wrestling Championship Meet held this past weekend at Bristol Eastern High School. Massey finished fourth in the 145-pound division while Pommils wrestled to a sixth-place showing in the 220-pound division. Both will represent Notre Dame in the CIAC State Open this coming weekend (Feb. 23-24) at the New Haven Athletic Center.
Basketball — From pre-game festivities to a three-pointer at the buzzer that put an exclamation point on a Senior Night of fun for the Class of 2018 basketball seniors, it was a good night for the Notre Dame basketball team as the beat Fairfield Prep, 76-60, on Tuesday, Feb. 12. Connor Raines and Mike Brooks led the way with 21 and 19 points respectively. The win ended the regular season with a 14-6 record. Notre Dame will be the 8th seed in the SCC Tournament and hosts Cheshire tonight in a first-round game.
Hockey — Zack Dumas, Chris Hibson, and Kyle Stober all scored for Notre Dame in its 5-3 loss to top-ranked Fairfield Prep on Saturday at the Bennett Rink. Hibson’s goal gave Notre Dame a 2-1 lead but the Jesuits responded with four straight goals to take control.
