Allingtown residents and members of the Allingtown Volunteer Fire Association joined in a wreath-layig ceremony on Memorial Day morning at the Allingtown Green.
The ceremony, organized by the Allingtown Volunteer Fire Association commemorated the lives of Allingtown veterans that were killed during war. It also honors the lives of all deceased Allingtown firefighters.
The ceremony began with a procession from the Admiral Street Station. It was led by the New Haven County Firefighters Bagpipe and Drum Band and included career and volunteer firefighters and City and State officials. Volunteer Lieutenant Sam Manuel and Firefighter Steven R. Mullins laid wreaths at the veterans and firefighter monuments.
Retired West Shore Fire Department Lt. Kevin McKeon played taps. Devotions were given by the Rev. Bruce R. Bellmore of the Church of the Resurrection in Ansonia and past Captain of Engine Company #1 in the Center District. Remarks were delivered by City of West Haven Allingtown Fire Chief Michael Terenzio and State Representative Trenee’ McGee.
Others in attendance were, City Council Chairman and retired City of West Haven Fire Chief Peter Massaro (D-6), Councilwoman Robbin Watt Hamilton (D-5), Councilman Gary Donovan (D-At-Large), Councilman Ronald Quagliani (D-At-Large), Fire Commissioner Fred Brown, City of West Haven Fire Department Allingtown Deputy Chief Michael Esposito and Volunteer Chief John Carew.
