Recently, members of the Allingtown Volunteer Fire Association were honored by West Haven Mayor Dorinda Borer for their commitment, bravery and dedication to protecting the people of Allingtown and the entire City of West Haven. Representing Mayor Borer was Sixth District Councilwoman Dawn Callahan and Fourth District Councilman Gary Donovan. AVFA Chief John Carew accepted the citation on behalf of the Association members. Also receiving recognition were five graduating University of New Haven seniors.
* Firefighter Tyler Pereira earned his Bachelor of Science in Fire Protection Engineering.
* Firefighter Tyler Reardon earned his Bachelor of Science in Paramedicine.
* Firefighter Evan Angelace earned his Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice.
* Firefighter Evan Eichorn earned his Bachelor of Science i Fire Administration.
* Firefighter Vanessa Connolly earned her Bachelor of Science in Emergency Management.
The Allingtown Volunteer Fire Association responds to incidents of all natures, including and not limited to structure fire, motor vehicle accidents, etc. They work with and supplement the City of West Haven Fire Department, Allingtown. They also respond to mutual aid calls for the West Haven Center District and the West Shore, whenever needed.
After accepting the citation from Councilwoman Callahan, Chief Carew spoke of the financial benefits the volunteer brigade brings to Allingtown taxpayers.
“Since August 2024, this group of young volunteers has provided service to the Allingtown District with savings of over $100,000 in labor costs,” Carew said.
The ceremony was also attended by the City of West Haven Fire Department , Allingtown Chief Michael Terenzio, Center District Assistant Chief William Johnson, Naugatuck Assistant Fire Chief Walt Seamons and former Allingtown Fire Chief Peter Massaro.
