The Allingtown Volunteer Fire Association recently hosted a picnic at the Admiral Street Headquarters for returning and future members from the University of New Haven.
Mayor Dorinda A. Borer, City of West Haven Fire Department, Allingtown Chief Michael Terenzio and Association Chief John Carew were on hand to speak words of welcome and encouragement to the young volunteers.
Volunteer firefighters have a long history in West Haven, but especially in the Allingtown District. The Association dates back to 1907, when West Haven was still considered a borough of the Town of Orange.
The Allingtown Volunteer Fire Association responds to incidents of all nature, including, but not limited to structural and brush fires, motor vehicle accidents, etc.
They work with and supplement the City of West Haven Fire Department, Allingtown. They also respond to mutual aid calls the West Haven Center and West Shore Fire Departments and wherever else they are needed.
“Since last year, this group of young firefighters has provided services to Allingtown with a savings of over $100,000 to the taxpayers,” said Carew.
The Association is welcoming new members of all ages. For additional information, contact Chief Carew at (203) 214-5535.
