Hundreds of fans of BMX and skilled biking showed up at the city’s skate park for the annual competition. The full-day event includes many of the area’s skilled competitors and promotes the sport of BMX and trick cycling. See the Sports page for another photo.

It was that time of year again as BMX and trick riders and their enthusiasts converged on the West Haven Skate Park on Beach Street. The daylong event included exhibitions and competitions by many local riders.

Popular in the years following World War II, drive-in theaters popped up all over the landscape. The Bowl Drive-in, located opposite West River Park and Marginal Drive, thrived during the late 1940s, 50s and 60s. Like most drive-ins, however, the business struggled into the 1970s, before closing. Little remains to remind residents of the past as the site is now a trucking concern.
