Lions Club collects food items
The West Haven Lions Club will be collecting non-perishable food items for the holiday season at Physicians Physical Therapy on 544 Campbell Ave. Lions Club members will bring the items collected to WHEAT for distribution to our community. Nonperishable items include all canned and boxed goods. Thank you in advance for your support. Viet Veterans plan food drive
West Haven Vietnam Veterans Inc. is collecting nonperishable food items Saturday for the West Haven Emergency Assistance Task Force. The food drive will take place on the Green from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and benefit WHEAT’s food pantry at 674 Washington Ave., which provides meals for residents in need.
Jewelry sale, food drive at OLOV
BAUBLES, BANGLES & BEADS, A beautiful variety of gently used and new jewelry at basement prices will be on sale at Our Lady of Victory church hall, 300 Captain Thomas Blvd., on Saturday, Nov. 27 from 1:30 to 6 p.m., and on Sunday, Nov. 28 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The sale benefits the Ursuline Sisters. Masks are required to enter. A food drive will be held on Saturday, Nov. 13 at Our Lady of Victory Church, 300 Captain Thomas Blvd., from 9 a.m. to noon to benefit WHEAT.
Most needed food items are peanut butter, mac and cheese, tomato sauce, pasta, soup, hot and cold cereal, canned vegetables. Sponsored by the Social Justice Committee of Our Lady of Victory and St John XXIII parishes, this is a drive-thru event.
Alternatively, food donations can be picked up at your doorstep by calling Charlie at (203) 934-9740. Monetary donations (cash or checks made payable to WHEAT) are greatly appreciated and can be brought to the Food Drive or mailed to WHEAT, 674 Washington Ave, West Haven 06516.
Eucharistic miracles display slated
St. Louis Church is hosting a Vatican International Exhibit of Eucharistic Miracles at the church, 89 Bull Hill Lane, on Saturday, Nov. 13, from 1-7 p.m., and Sunday, Nov.14, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. With an extensive assortment of photographs and historical descriptions, the exhibition presents some of the Eucharistic Church. Energy assistance offered
The city is accepting applications for the federally funded Connecticut Energy Assistance Program.
Appointments for all heating sources can be made by calling 203-937-3572. Because of the coronavirus pandemic, applications will be processed via phone by appointment Monday through Thursday. No walk-ins will be accepted.
Applicants who have difficulty speaking English are asked to have a translator.
Eligibility for assistance is based on the income of an applicant’s household. To qualify, applicants must provide pay stubs, including monthly Social Security benefits and pension checks, for all household members 18 and older.
Applicants must also provide SNAP benefits, a current utility bill, Social Security numbers and birthdates for all household members.
