On Oct.23, The West Haven Public Library is partnering with Yale Undergraduate Prison Project (YUPP) to help the formerly incarcerated, as well as anyone looking for assistance, for one-on-one support with anything related to resumes and job applications once a month. This program can help with resumes, cover letters, job searches, emails, and more! No registration necessary, stop by at your convenience between 6 and 7:30 p.m. to speak with a representative!
Spooky season is upon us, and we have tons of family fun planned for the end of October. Join us for a Spooky S’mores Storytime, a Haunted Pirate Ship Party, a Teen/Tween Halloween party, or a Library Costume Parade & Storytime! Visit our website or call the library at (203) 937-4233 to see what activities are available for each age group. Stop by Ora Mason during the week of Halloween and take part in their Trick or Treat and Seek Scavenger Hunt! On Halloween Day, stop by either library to show off your snazzy, silly, or scary costumes and get some sweet treats–kick off your night of Trick-or-Treating right here at the library!
West Haven Library is thrilled to welcome local author Katie Tietjen for an author talk at the Main Library on Nov. 6. Katie will be discussing her newly released mystery book “Murder in Miniature”, inspired by the true story of Frances Glessner Lee, the real-life mother of forensic science. The first book in the series and Katie’s debut novel “Death in the Details” (2024) was nominated for the Mary Higgins Clark award earlier this year. A lifelong Connecticut resident, Katie is a teacher and school librarian, as well as a member of Mystery Writers of America and Sisters in Crime. Books will be available to purchase at this event!
Yale New Haven Health will be partnering with the library beginning in late November to provide free CPR, AED, and Narcan bystander training for members of the community who are interested in learning these critical life-saving skills. Stay tuned for more details or call the library for more information.
New Book Club Alert Two years ago, the Main Library was inspired by the two book club groups who meet at our Ora Mason branch. We decided to test the waters to see if anyone was interested in starting a new book club at the Main branch. Much to our delight, over 50 people showed up to talk about what they would like to see in a library-run book club! Three book clubs at the Main Library were the result of this exciting turnout! Now, once again, we want to hear from you! Please consider participating in our interest survey by scanning the QR code to let us know what you want from our next book club at Ora Mason. The link to the survey can also be emailed out to any individual upon request.
As a reminder, both libraries will be closed on Oct. 20 for professional development. We re-open on Tuesday, Oct. 21 at our regular hours.
