The sixth seeded Prospect Beach Club Blue Devils kicked off the playoffs of West Haven Girls Basketball with an 8-4 upset win over the third seeded Louise’s Bakery Cardinals.
The Blue Devils win was helped by a team defensive effort to keep the Cardinals off the scoreboard. Ella Morgan hit for five points for the Blue Devils and D’Lyana Dixon and Jessica Heaven also chipped in with offense. Abby Giaquinto, Talia Decresenzo and Courtney Gorske starred on the defensive end.
The Cardinals received solid play from Keilany Palma, Jocelyn Avardo, Giana Mainor and Jasmyn Degraca.
The upset trend continued as the fifth seeded Lacobelle Law Bruins rallied past the fourth seeded TBNG Eagles, 13-9. Jaylyn Powell led the Bruins with five points in the fourth quarter. Nevaeh Stegall added four points and Noelle Lawrence and Michaela Pribnow finished the scoring for the Bruins.
The Eagles used balanced scoring led by Angelina Messina, Justice Butler, Kaylee Sellner, Amarae Rosario and Natalia Washington.
Semifinal games was last night, Feb. 21 and the championship game on Friday at 7:15 p.m. All games will be played at Seth Haley.
