On the early morning of Memorial Day, the Allingtown Volunteer Fire Department held its annual wreath ceremony to honor the lives of Allingtown veterans who were killed in war, as well as all deceased Allingtown firefighters.
Firefighter Steven R. Mullins, serving as Master of Ceremonies, led Scouting America Troop 821—an all-girl troop chartered by the Allingtown Fire Department—in a procession from the Admiral Street Firehouse to Allingtown Center. The troop, with the assistance of Mullins, carried a large American flag, which they raised.
Retired West Shore Fire Department member Kevin McKeon played Call to Colors as the flag was raised and then lowered to half-mast in honor of our fallen heroes.
The solemn procession included members of the Surfside Veterans Association; Chief Michael Terenzio and Fire Commissioner Fred Brown of the West Haven Fire Department of Allingtown; Center District Fire Commissioner and Allingtown Volunteer Fire Association Chief John Carew; as well as career and volunteer firefighters.
The invocation was delivered by the Rev. Dayna McGee, followed by remarks from Councilwoman Dawn Callahan (D-6) and Chief Michael Terenzio. A wreath was laid at the war memorial by Surfside Veteran Zack Davis, and Chief Carew placed the final wreath at the firefighter memorial. Also in attendance were State Representative Trenee McGee (D-116), State Representative Bill Heffernan (D-115), City Councilman Mackie MacMillian (D-5), and Councilwoman Kathy Tucker (D-7
