Rossetty Portes, who owns Generosity Child Care at 12 Bungalow Lane, received a grant from the Women’s Business Development Council on Jan. 8.
WBDC, in partnership with the state Office of Early Childhood, offers grants of up to $25,000 to qualified child care businesses in Connecticut through its Child Care Business Opportunity Fund.
Designed to help licensed and aspiring child care businesses grow, the opportunity fund has grant programs targeting different stages of business, from startups to those ready to expand, said Sonique Solis, who leads WBDC’s Child Care fund program.
During the latest round of grant awards, WBDC distributed $404,222 to 38 child care businesses.
Since its inception in 2020, the program has provided more than $8 million to child care providers statewide.
City Health Director Sheila Carmon represented Mayor Dorinda Borer at the grant presentation and congratulated Portes on Borer’s behalf.
“It is a pleasure for me to represent Mayor Dorinda Borer and the city of West Haven and witness the wonderful environment you have created at your day care center,” Carmon said. “Your home day care is truly a bright and welcoming space, filled with light and positive energy, making it an ideal setting for children to learn and grow.”
