As Iyam scribing this week’s missive to yew, honey bunch, the forecast if for the foist tropical storm of the season, and by the time yew git this it’ll be over. But what a storm they are expecting. I guess we’ll have some big winds, a lotta rain, and some damage along the way, but it’ll be outta here perty fast, like in a few hours.
Old-timers like yew and me figger that we’re gonna git hit with something this year. Every time, it seems, the humidity and heat stay up as they’ve had these last couple o’ weeks, we’ve had bad weather. Every time we have a hurricane, the weather preceding it is jest the same: hot and humid. Soooo, Cobina doesn’t expeck to be rowing down the street in a boat from her domicile, but she does expect a big wind comin’.
Of course, most of the “big wind” in this berg have to do with the politicos who seem like to chatter and talk. And the chatter and talk is getting more and more cuz we in the Nutmeg State have a primary comin’ up this week. It’ll be interestin’ to see what happens on Demmie side only cuz Joe Biden seems to be more and more outta the realm of reality lately. Will local Dems stick with the heir presumptive, or will they go another way? Inquiring minds wanna know.
Let’s jest hope that our little corner of the universe don’t turn out like those Congressional races in New Yawk. Six weeks after the voting, the winners have not been determined. Why? About umpteen thousand paper ballots that came through the mail. And they wanna do that here. And effen a candidate gets close how much yew wanna bet a “traunch” of ballots is found that will put the candidate over the top. Remember Kennedy-Nixon? Same thing.

Here in our little Asylum by the Sea, most parental units are looking toward Sept. 1 and whether Johnny and Judy are gonna be going into classes or not. His Excellency the Governor has requested plans from each and every school districk and ours complied like the rest. It looks like there’s gonna be some options and some choices to be made.
Some parents might take the home-schooling thing to the next level and decide not to put the kiddies back in the classroom. Others probably will opt for the five-day plan effen they get the chance. Right now, things seem to be up in the air cuz there is still the distancing, number of kids, etc., that have to be woiked out. Effen yew think this is gonna go smoothly, think twice.
We hoide via Sammy Bluejay that Winkle Bus is planning to transport the students as usual, but will hafta made adjustments so that there aren’t too man on one bus. That probably means extra runs and extra costs for the company. I know the company is planning on publishing the schedule in a couple weeks, it’ll be interesting how they figger out what to do, and how many extra buses to put on the routes. Whatta mess!

Nelly Nuthatch tells me that the reconstruction of the storm drains on First Avenue/Beach Street in front of the Sewage Treatment Plant and environs is starting to weigh on the neighborhood on Second Avenue. The traffic is being diverted to Second off Beach and then to Monahan Place to get back to First, and vice-versa.
Well, the added traffic has been an added headache for that two-block area in that the volume is way beyond what is normal, but the accidents over there have quadrupled, according to Nelly. The residents are getting really worried about the dangers posed by those who don’t seem to understand it’s a residential neighborhood, where the speed limit has to be followed.
They are not at all happy with the situation and can’t wait until the work over there is finished and things get back to some semblance of “normal.”
Meanwhile, effen yew’ve been around Elm Street near the Kimberly Avenue Bridge anytime near rush hour, yew’ve noticed the large number o’ vehicles that are backed up over there. It’s been two months or so since they closed down Water Street, and a body didn’t realize the number of autos that used that outlet to git to Main Street, but the number of cars bumper-to-bumper trying to get over the bridge tells the story.
Now, think about it. The volume o’ traffic is backed up all the way to the Boulevard now. What is gonna happen if, and when, the Haven opens up and people trying to get to that venue hafta get over the only bridge leading into town? Heck, it’ll be like that all day. And the businesses around there can’t be too happy, people will avoid that area, and the restaurants and shops will lose business.
Oh, and just to be consistent: another week and nothing is being done over there, except somebody was tasked with cutting the grass on the former properties. That was a nice touch.

Well, it was bittersweet seein’ the old high school entrance and auditorium fall under the wrecker’s ball last week. Of course, it’s been happening for weeks, according to Iva Lootey. Much of the work happened under a bubble. But now we have a picture of the entire area being cleared. There are a lotta memories over there, and seeing the old building go down is not a happy sight.
It also means that I guess we’re in the final stages of the construction of the new building and the rest o’ the site will be coming down sooner rather than later. I know that Madame Olga was passing by there one day last week and told me that the gym seems to be next as a pile o’ rubble has been seen outside the structure.
It should anger somebody – but probably not too many – that a lotta money was used to reconstruct that entrance, and re-do the gym into a shop. All that money now seems wasted. Of course, some yahoo will say it was state and fed’ral money, but it all comes from us.

It was good to see Stevie Mullins organize a pro-police rally on the Green last week. After the General Assembly – and our dedicated assembly people – bent the knee to the radical left with this new police oversight bill (not too much courage on their part) it was nice to see somebody still respects the job the men and women in blue do. This whole police bill was a reaction to something and that’s never a good way to make law.
It’s the famous “Well, at least we did something” defense that legislators try to push off on their constituents. The fact the press releases that came from the House and Senate PR departments had to say how “proud” the lawmakers were, proves they are pulling a fast one. They know it’s just a way of keeping the loud mouths quiet.
We don’t have any statesmen anymore, Felicia, they are just the basest of poiticians.

Whilst the CIAC, the lawmaking body in state high school sports came out with a plan for the fall, there is a black cloud hanging over it. Gov. Lamont has evidently engaged that screwball Ezechiel Eammnuel as a consultant. Well, last week they came out against having “contact sports” in the fall cuz of the China Flu. Already a couple o’ districks have canceled fall sports. Methinks that is gonna set off a domino effect, and the number is gonna grow in the next few days. We shall see.
With that bit o’ chatter, I’ll close mitt luff und kizzez,
