Well honeybunch, effen yew think Ole Man Winter is gonna go quietly, you are sooooo wrong! As Iyam scribing this week’s missive (it seems I’ve writ this on more than one occasion), another nor’easter is barreling up the coast and we’re gonna git hit, yet again.
Luckily, the Asylum by the Sea has not been hit as hard as some places. Heck, in Monroe it was days before the power came back for some people, and in other parts o’ the state, homes that lost power in the foist storm two weeks ago just got back on line over the weekend.
Well, this one is supposed to give us more of the white stuff and more cold and wind. I can take the cold, and I can take the wet, but I can’t take the cold and wet, and I certainly hate the cold and wind. We shall see.
Jest remember whot the ole wives used to say about snowstorms after March 15, they stick around a while. Let’s hope this latest blast of cold and snow will be the last for the season, but I won’t bet the mortgage on it.
Speaking of betting the mortgage, Sammy Bluejay came in t’other afternoon and said effen anyone bet the mortgage on the primary election last week, they lost their house and their shirt. As we got closer to the vote, the consensus was that the Democratic Party would remain a house divided with a perty even split betwixt Rossi supporters and those of soon-to-be former party chairman Jim Morrissey.
In fack, I guess before there was a primary forced, there was some negotiating concerning the make-up of the town committee, and that’s why it took days before a decision was made to have the vote.
Tennyrate, when the tallies came in, nobody was prepared for what happened. In a replay of the election in November, herroner’s people swept into power. Nobody expected her to win in November, and nobody – including many of her own people – expected the party committee would change all that much.
Nope. As it turned out, they swept all but one districk and that included the former hizzoner and Morrissey in the 8th. Only the 9th seemed to hold off the onslaught. It shocked many, including yores truly.
Everyone expected that the Morrissey people would git out their usual numbers and that things would be perty much status quo. They may haf got out those numbers, but it surely didn’t mean that once they got into the booth they voted with the incumbents.
We shall see how this affects things. The City Council has been a tinderbox betwixt the two factions. It’ll be interesting to see what happens now. It could go either as more of a “resistance” to use a currently fashionable term, or things could get a bit more cooperative. We shall see.

Cobina ain’t a social media-type, but she’s hearin’ that the little item we talked about last week concerning the Haven project caused a firestorm on various social sites. I ain’t a big fan of those sites cuz people think they can say perty much anything they want and get away with it.
It looks like the former administration was doing what other administrations did with big projects: play them for all they were worth and hope that something actually happens. It seems that’s what went on here. The permit process was kind of stuck on stuck and nothing happened for a long time. Eventually, people got disgusted – as they did before, but not until after giving the benefit of the doubt – and voted them out.
I ain’t criticizing the former administration for doing what they did. They really were hoping for the best, but sometimes, or in the case of this berg, most of the time, things don’t happen quite the way they’re planned.
This is gonna be a tough one to get over effen Mr. O’Brien is hoping to challenge Mrs. Rossi in the next go-round. As I told yew a couple weeks ago, that’s what was being rumored. Of course, with the schmotzing they took last week, who knows what’ll happen. In politics, 21 months is a lifetime.

Of course as Iva Lootey reminded me, herroner is prepping her budget address, witch she is supposed to deliver on the day yew git this missive. One wonders effen it’s gonna be all doom and gloom. She had a self-imposed due date of March 1 and wasn’t able to meet it. That was the date that the Municipal Accountability Review Board (MARB) was supposed to take a gander at it. Well, it has been sent over I guess, and we’ll find out soon enuff what the members think.
Unlike past budgets, no one is making any predictions as to what or how this budget is gonna be in its finished form. Herroner has let it be known loud and clear that some positions are gonna be eliminated and the word to describe this document is “austerity.”
Of course, anyone who knows what we’ve had in the past won’t exactly call us a bunch of spend-thrifts. Still, it’s gonna be interesting to see how the school bored is handled, and then what happens on the city side. This year’s budget meeting could be a rather jumpy affair – like cats on a hot tin roof, a lot o’ jumping and yammering.
The fack that the MARB is gonna sign off on this thing before the City Council gets it means not much more can be done, and little should be expected to be changed.
It’s gonna be an interesting couple o’ weeks, sweetie pie. My suggestion is to strap yoreself in and have some popcorn. It’s gonna be quite a show.

As I told yew a couple weeks ago, the papyrus has reorganized its business model and is now under a new LLC. I guess rumors have been all over the berg concerning this. Let’s put it as succinctly as Cobina can. The business needed to be reorganized or there was gonna be problems. Those problems have been handled, and it looks like we’ll be here for a good long while.
Nothing is gonna change in the short-term – or the long-term effen we do things right. Soooo, things are steady as she goes, and we should be in good shape.
The rumor mill can cease. We ain’t goin’ anywhere.

Nelly Nuthatch came in t’other afternoon and she’s right. For about a decade, the city ain’t been taking television sets in bulk trash, nor computers or perty much anything with a screen. Yet, dontcha think that’s what we’ve seen on the curb?
Of course, they weren’t picked up and, obviously, the owners didn’t bother to find out why, cuz they’re still on the curb. It never ceases to amaze me how oblivious some people can be, and when it comes to the quarterly bulk trash, that oblivion is on display.

With that bit o’ chatter, I’ll close this time till next, mitt luff und kizzez,
