Joe Miller, the Democratic Primary challenger to State Rep. Treneé McGee (D-116), issued a statement regarding the personal attacks she has leveled on him over his stance on abortion, calling him a “Supremacist” in this morning’s Hartford Courant article, as well as at public events:
It was never my intention to talk about personal matters in my family’s lives, and never thought I’d have to in this campaign. But after Treneé McGee has repeatedly attacked me as a “supremacist” when it comes to the issue of reproductive freedom, I felt it important to explain why this issue is so important for me:
When my mother was the age of 19, she ended up suffering from an ectopic pregnancy, which required her to have an abortion performed in order to save her life. My mother wouldn’t have survived, and I wouldn’t have ever been born if Roe V Wade protections weren’t in place in the early 90s. Neither of us would be here today.
For Treneé McGee to call my stance on reproductive rights “supremacist” is just beyond the pale. The entire notion is heartless, despicable, and wholly uninformed. For such a devoutly religious person, she was extremely quick to cast judgment on me.
On behalf of my mother and my family, I call on State Representative McGee to apologize for her hateful words and focus on our policy differences rather than gutless personal attacks.
