Lack of education aids ignorance of Socialism
One of the catch phrases we are prone to use on occasion is “They are a victim of their lack of education.” Say what you will about today’s young people, they are technologically smart, have a certain guile, and can be witty and fun, but they are NOT educated. Education – or the education establishment, if you will – has become more and more anti-American and left wing since World War II. What was once cover, has become overt.
The institutions that formed this nation, the people responsible for the intellectual foundation of the system, and even the civilization that spawned it are under attack by a more and more virulent left. Ostensibly, their quarrel is with what they see as the “original sin” of America, slavery. Yet, slavery as an institution is thousands of years old, and was practiced in all cultures, East and West. Unfortunately, it exists in various parts of the world even today.
When it finally was seen as in opposition to the ideas of individual liberty, it was the intellectual deposit of the West, not the East, that moved for its elimination as an institution. It took a Civil War with the loss of more than 600,000 citizens that finally ended it.
Yet, to listen to the left, it is White Supremacy, Western culture and its religion, Christianity, that must be eliminated in order for people to be free. And where is that freedom, to be found? Socialism!
The rise of Socialism on American college campuses and among so-called “progressives,” is a phenomenon of modern times that bespeaks an absolute denial of what this system is: the tyranny of the collective over the individual. Those who support “Antifa,” for example, short for “anti-fascist” are, in fact, the fascists. They support state control over freedom, and will use tactics made famous by brown shirts and black shirts in Germany and Italy in the 1920s and 1930s to eliminate or silence opposition.
But, they are, truly, victims of their lack of education. Taught that Western thought and Western culture are ipso facto bad means our young people are being indoctrinated to desire a world that cannot exist. There is no socialist society that works the way it is supposed to work. That is the fodder for faculty lounge discussions, not real life. And to believe, as Bernie Sanders does, for example, that if it is tried here we can do it better, hasn’t been paying attention.
Progressive orthodoxy called for and got an administrative state that is super-legislative. Congress, which imposed many of the departments of government, abdicated its responsibility, and allowed many bureaucrats to legislate. Rules coming out of departments are law, pure and simple.
Socialism in its practiced form, not the form that is the stuff of liberal think tanks, is a repressive system, using the force of the state – and the point of a gun – to keep its people in line. Venezuela is one example, but the best example right now is China. It is the repressive state writ large.
Schools and universities are hot houses for left wing ideology. The capitalism bad, socialism good mantra is beginning to bear fruit. With the rise of new universities and more home schooling, this phalanx can be breached. Fewer students, then, will be victims of their lack of education.
