Kavanaugh confirmation a national spectacle, disgrace
The national spectacle we now see concerning Judge Brett Kavanaugh and his confirmation to the Supreme Court is an embarrassment to everyone but the people making and fostering the charges. Let us say right off the top, we do not believe the charges of either female, thus far, because in both cases they cannot corroborate their stories. This was a political dirty trick concocted by the Democrats and their allies.
In the case of Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, she neither remembers the date, time, place or who was at the alleged party where the incident supposedly took place. Neither can she get anyone of the people she claims to have been there to corroborate it. In fact, they vehemently deny it, including her best friend.
Similarly, Deborah Ramirez claims Kavanaugh exposed himself at a party while the two were at Yale, yet her closest confidant and lifelong friend says the two knew intimate secrets about each other and this never came up. Meanwhile, others who were there deny it ever happened.
As the allegations wear on, it is becoming more and more obvious that California Sen. Diane Feinstein withheld the letter from Dr. Ford to create the firestorm we now find ourselves. If the letter came out earlier, the charges would have been refuted as thin and unverifiable. Waiting until after the hearings concluded did two things: put the confirmation vote on hold; and played to the California base of the Democratic Party, where Feinstein is fighting to stay in the senate.
Ramirez came forth after being cajoled by Democratic Party operatives. The New Yorker story that made the allegations of the Yale incident admits about 1500 words into the article that no one can corroborate the story even though Ms. Ramirez attempted to get the allegations verified. Meanwhile, she admits herself that she has gaps of memory because she was falling down drunk.
Let’s just admit that what is happening here is a desperate attempt by Democrats and the radical Left to derail this confirmation. George Soros-funded organizations furnished the attorneys for the women, both of which are virulently anti-Trump and anti-Conservative. Money and counsel are being furnished to both women to push these fictions.
The Democrats and Progressives know that Kavanaugh’s confirmation will end a near-70-year time frame where the courts became super legislatures to impose left wing programs and ideals on the nation. Kavanaugh, an originalist, would look at the law and Constitution to decide cases. What Democrats and Progressives want are more judges to do from the bench what they cannot do at the ballot box.
For almost 70 years, courts have been used to come up with “rights” that are usually determined by contorted logic. Roe v. Wade, the mother lode of this type of judicial legislation, is the case par excellence for this type of lawmaking. Based on Justice William Brennan’s famous “penumbras,” the ruling is recognized by both left and right as having no basis in judicial precedent or law.
Like it came the ruling three years ago on same-sex faux marriage. Justice Anthony Kennedy, whom Kavanaugh is slated to replace, was the swing vote on this issue, and did not base it in law, but in evolving social mores. This type of fanciful ruling would stop.
But there is a bigger question here. Those supporting Ford and Ramirez believe accusations are fact, and should not be questioned. They are setting up strawmen, saying those who seek to find evidence or corroboration – or even question the accuser – are bulling her and showing disrespect for women and their feelings.
Sorry, this does not wash. Making accusations of this type against a man with the august reputation of Kavanaugh must be verified by facts and evidence. None is forthcoming in either of the cases. In both cases the accusers can’t get their stories straight.
This is where we are in 2018. Accusers are to be believed the facts be damned. Reputations and families are to be tormented by those making political points, and hoping for short-term victories.
As we said, this is a national spectacle. It is also a national disgrace.
