In West Haven Youth Soccer action, the Elite Soccer Camps Lightning took on American Legion Post 71 Red Dragons with the Lightning coming out on top, 4-2. For the Lightning, Liam Lima and Jax Guarino both played well in goal, and Theodore Sakouvogui worked on the outside midfield. For the Red Dragons, Jaxon Cruz and Trevor Davis played a solid game in goal, and Jacob Rader and Jonathan King passed the ball well throughout the game. Gavin Lenihan put in a good shift at for the Dragons at forward.
The West Haven Federation of Teachers Lightning Fairies played against a tough Mad Mike’s Cheesesteaks. Katherine Samaniego and Addilyn Lockwood played great defense for the Lightning Fairies, and Avalyn Wilder, Justine Davila, Mia Retamoza Irigoyen, and Aneesa Kass all scored. For Mad Mike’s Cheesesteak, Anna Howery had a great all-around game.
Milano & Wanat defeated Wizard Painting, 4-1. Goals were scored by Alex Wright, Nick Pratt and Sammy Gartani. Solid defense by Josiah Herrera help make the job of goalies Christopher Thomas and Jace Rodriguez easier. The Elsie Encarnnacion State Farm Insurance Blue Angels defeated #DAVILATRIBE, 5-2. The Angels were led by Chelsea Hernandez Fortin, who picked up the hat trick, and Allison Davis and Alliemarie Sesler added goals. Fourela Dembele played great in goal.
In a tight matchup, the Baybrook Remodelers Orange Tiger Sharks earned their first win, 4-3, over West Haven Police Local 895. Melech Biggs played fast and tough and stayed in the middle of the action, Omar Boghdady did great learning the ropes of being a goalie and hustled on defense, and Andrew Cozayatl never ran out of energy and had some great saves as goalie.
The West Haven Professional Firefighters Maroon Tigers upended Taco Town, 5-2. Joe Sperry, Jr, led all scorers with two goals, while Doniel Agustin had a goal and two assists. Mohamed Nasr and Sabri Abdelmageed each chipped in one apiece. For Taco Town, Christopher Romero took advantage of his breakaway opportunities and scored two goals during the game. Ibrahim Abudayya played well in goal, making several big saves. The Dr R. Mark Pappas D.C. girls played #DAVILATRIBE Yellowjackets and came out with a hard fought 3-1 win. The offense was led by Ruaa Nage with two goals and Isabella Celantano chipping in with a goal. For the Yellow Jackets, Kaylice Lawrence worked hard to stop multiple shots.
P&B Express defeated Vio’s Sportsplus, 8-3. Boden Rogers scored twice, and Marc Philogene got a hat trick. Sergio Salinas Jarra and Jeremiah Nunoo both played tough defense. Keenan Funeral Home took on Budget Transmission Center. Tyler Dos Anjos and Almoatasem Naas played a good game, running up and down the field and having a positive attitude. Muhammad Aksu also played well. The Porto Funeral Home Golden Stars had a hard-fought battle with Westries Nutrition, and pulled out the victory. Stand out performances came from Chase Pridgen and Dylan Banegas-Molina.
In other in-house games, CT Pest Elimination and WH Italian-American Civic Association played to a 4-4 tie. Cappetta’s Italian Imports took the game to Frankie’s of West Haven, winning 4-1. Stowe’s Seafood and Touch of Heaven Home Care played to a 5-5 tie, and Falcone Law Firm fell to York Business Center 3-2.
In travel team action, the RQ Professional Accounting & Tax Services U12 girls were at Shelton Friday, where they took home a 5-0 win. Excellent teamwork and passing skills lead to goals by Gillian Wynus, Stella Porto, Joslyn DaVila, and Luciana Cappetta. Chelsea Frost had some good plays on the field as well in the win. The Rock House School of Music U10 boys team was away to Southington. In a tight game, the Westies held on to win, 6-5. Ryan Abekah, Luca DeCrescenzo and Roland Green all scored. Jaxon Cruz and Jacob Rader were solid in goal in the win for the Westies. The Gunning Law Firm U9 boys travel team played their first game, and picked up their first win, knocking off Naugatuck, 5-1. Yangel Ortiz Garzon opened the scoring, and Jonathon King and Dylan Fonseca added goals. Abdul Akondo did well in goal, and Grayson McCarthy played a strong game in midfield. Emmett Hemming was stellar on defense in the win for the young Westies.
