Another busy week on the Green Knight Nation springs sports scene highlighted by senior tennis player Andrew Forchetti becoming the school’s all-time singles record holder for wins. Lacrosse had big win over North Haven, while track and golf split a pair of matches.
Tennis — Records are made to be broken and Notre Dame tennis star Andrew Forchetti forged his name into the record book when he beat Fairfield Prep’s Nash Lavallo 6-0 6-1 on May 3. That win gave him 56 for his career, topping the mark of 55 previously held by Jim Tarca ‘09. The Jesuits won the match 5-2. Tennis had a busy week as they had four matches, beating Law on May 1 but falling to Hand, Fairfield Prep, and Amity to run their record to 8-4.
Track — Track split a dual meet beating Branford while losing to Xavier on May 1. Jason Sawicki (110 high hurdles), Warren Murphy (400), Jared Russo (triple jump), and Nick Petruzzelli (pole vault) won their events as the Green Knights split the meet. ND beat Branford 97-55 while falling to Xavier.
Lacrosse — In its lone game of the week, Notre Dame beat North Haven 10-8 to improve to 6-5 on season. Zach Hochman had five goals to lead the Green Knights. After taking a 5-2 halftime lead, Notre Dame found themselves tied with the Indians 7-7 early in the fourth quarter. Vin Cleary started a three-goal run to seize momentum and, ultimately, the victory.
Baseball — The Notre Dame nine’s week started on a high note with a 7-1 win over East Haven then dropped the next three, including a pair of one-run losses to Cheshire (2-1) and North Haven (6-5). . James Salemme was also outstanding on the bump in a tough 2-1 loss to Cheshire. Notre Dame enters this week with a 6-9 record looking for two more wins to qualify for the state tournament.
Golf — The golf team had an unbeaten week as it beat Sheehan and tied Shelton. Notre Dame poste dits lowest score of the year with Tommy Rosati shooting a 36 and Robbie Ludwig and Jake Ivan-Pal contributing with 38’s against Sheehan.
