Dominate the Day Foundation is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization created to honor the life and legacy of Jordan W. Sebastian, a beloved member of the West Haven community who passed away in October 2017 at the age of 24. Sebastian was involved in West Haven sports all his life. He played football for the Seahawks for years, played in the West Haven Fundamental Basketball league (that recently honored him at their championship game), and he later gave back by coaching kids at Nike Site.
“Sebastian was loved, revered, and a role model to many. He was a great student, a stellar athlete, and a dedicated coach and mentor,” say organizers in a press release.
He graduated from Hopkins in New Haven, earned a bachelor’s in English while playing football for The University of Rhode Island, and was close to completing his master’s degree.
“Because he cared so deeply about his work, Dominate the Day Foundation is committed to helping young people become the absolute best version of themselves in character, academics, and sports, ultimately ensuring their positive impact on the world,” say organizers. “The foundation will provide inspirational mentoring, tutoring and coaching experiences for those who need it the most. The goal is to inspire k ids and young adults with hope for the future by teaching them to Dominate the Day! Everyday. As Jordan did.”
In order to raise community awareness about the foundation and to raise funds needed for programming, Dominate the Day will kick off its inaugural event on Sunday. The Dominate the Day 5K, one-mile walk, and kids’ fun run will be held at the West Haven boardwalk.
Registration starts at 7. The kids run at 8, and the 5K and one-mile walk begin at 8:25.
Families are encouraged to pre-register to walk or run, and enjoy a morning of music, fun, face- painting, bounce houses, and more! The first 400 pre-registrants will receive the official Dominate the Day 5K T-shirt, and all finishers will earn the official Dominate the Day 5K medal. All proceeds will go to the foundation for its work with community kids.
In the fall of 2018, Dominate the Day Foundation will offer tutoring, test prep, and educational workshops for students from West Haven and New Haven. On July 21, the foundation will offer its first football clinic.
