About 100 golfers turned out for a good cause as longtime West Haven businessman Frank Cuomo, owner of Elm Cafe at 124 Elm St., hosted the 20th annual Elm Cafe Golf Tournament Sept. 17 at Alling Memorial Golf Club in New Haven. The tournament, which benefits blood cancer research, raised $7,784 for the Stamford-based Connecticut Westchester Hudson Valley chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Since its inception in 1999, the event has collected $155,560 for the cause, Cuomo said.
“LLS has been honored to be the recipient of the proceeds from the Elm Cafe Tournament over the last 20 years,” said the chapter’s executive director, Deborah Barker, in a statement. “We are grateful to Frank Cuomo for his hard work and dedication to our mission of finding blood cancer cures.” LLS, the world’s largest voluntary health agency dedicated to blood cancer, aims to cure leukemia, lymphoma and multiple myeloma and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families.
