Dear Eleanore Turkington:
After reading the May 6 issue of Gripe Vine, I agree with Ruth Lombardi about opening the Senior Center. We need to get the Senior Center open with activities, especially exercises. I think you will find West Haven Seniors with agreement with all the other towns like Milford and Orange that have opened their centers.
Yes, please continue to include seniors in your articles. Thank you for all that you do.

Dear Eleanore Turkington:
Hi: I saw your info in the West Haven Voice. I am a senior in West Haven and am very interested in having senior programs in our town. I would like to see the senior center re-open and offer programs and classes. Also, I REALLY hope the pool can re-open in the near future. I was a regular swimmer at the noon hour and hope to see that it can be offered soon. Thank you for your help.

Dear Marilyn and Karen:
Thank you for your opinion on the need for a senior center opening in West Haven. I am encouraging all interested seniors to email me at [email protected] or write to Gripe Vine c/o West Haven Voice, 840 Boston Post Road, West Haven 06516. In my last column I noted a reply from Council Woman Robin Watt Hamilton who stated, “I will be happy to bring this concern to the new Director of Elderly Service when hired.” Now, my suggestion is for Mayor Nancy Rossi to look into this inquiry and respond to Gripe Vine readers on the possibility of getting ‘The show on the Road” and to provide the West Haven Seniors the opportunity to visit and enjoy a West Haven Senior Center.
Dear Eleanore Turkington:
I would like to give the heavy pick-up crews a head’s up for a job well done. I have seen some of that stuff, you either needed a crane or brute power to do the job. You must have been sore after the job was done, lots of Ben Gay, heat lamps and heating pads and still picked up trash a couple of days after. Again, a job well done, good going guys!

Dear Eleanore Turkington:
Why hasn’t our Ninth District Councilman done anything about illegal trucks on Jones Hill Road and a dumpster on Bellevue and Howard Avenues?
GK Hillside Avenue
Dear GK:
I forwarded your questions to your District Councilman Robert Bruneau who replied, “Illegal trucks on Jones Hill Road: I have spent a considerable amount of time on addressing this concern and have personally visited this area with representatives of the West Haven Police Department’s Traffic division and have not encountered any of these trucks parked on the side of the road as reported. I would advise any resident who witnesses this to contact the West Haven Police Department’s non-emergency number and direct their concern to Sgt. Salvatore D’Amato, who I have been in constant contact with, so that they can address these instances immediately as they occur.
As far as the dumpsters on Bellevue and Howard Avenue, first it is important to point out that these two locations, which I have personally inspected on multiple occasions are in fact homes with storage containers in the driveway not dumpsters as reported. I have been in contact with the building department as well as the zoning officials who have also visited both properties and spoke with the homeowners, respectively. One property is under renovations and the container is holding furniture and the other is being used to mediate a flood incident within the home. Lloyd Adams of the Building Department for the City of West Haven has assured me both homeowners will have their respective situations solved and the containers removed in June.
I think it is important for residents to remember that containers and dumpsters are used for many different activities within the 9th district from home renovations to temporary storage needs and while they might temporarily affect “curb appeal” the items are not permanent.
Thank you for reaching out and assure you that the resident of the City of West Haven and in the 9th District are my primary concern. I work diligently every single day to address their concerns and serve them to the best of my abilities.”
If you have a gripe, concern or issue write to [email protected] or mail your concerns to Gripe Vine c/o West Haven Voice, 840 Boston Post Road, West Haven 06516. Please include your name, address and phone number, kept in strict confidence with me. You can also submit through our online form.
