Dear Eleanore Turkington:
Loud, rude, obnoxious party on Leete Street till wee hours of the morning. It sounded like a bad 10-piece orchestra that played to the max. Cups and debris tossed all over the place.
Neighbors take notice there: A noise ordinance up to 10 p.m. and a littering ordinance Several of my neighbors are elderly and some neighbors have newborns and work.
Please stop ,stop and stop.
Noise Buster AN
Dear Noise Buster AN
You are right! There is a 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. noise ordinance in West Haven.” Persons in a residential zone beyond the boundaries of his or her premises may not be in excess of the noise levels in these regulations. 154-5 in the city’s enforcements.”
Dear Eleanore Turkington:
(There wasa) late night party Friday night; kept neighborhood up all night Please rent a hall or different location.
A New Unhappy Night Owl FOI
Dear Eleanore Turkington:
We reside in a 30-unit condominium known as Oceanside on Beach Street. The SPEEDING and the NOISE MAKING is unbearable.
Several years ago, we had a meeting with the mayor to discuss the speeding and the unbearable noise issues and nothing was done. Police presence in the summer was tried, but as soon as they go the speeders, and the noise makers return. Speed bumps are the only answer to these problems. They were placed all over the beach streets of Milford and on several streets in New Haven. In all these locations, the problems were solved and there were no accidents.
We are asking for speed bumps in West Haven.
It’s Time To Do The Right Thing!
Dear Time:
I have sent a copy of your complaint to Councilman William X. Conlon your Councilman for your district.
Dear Eleanore Turkington:
I live across the street from Beacon on The Hill. The grass is out of control. I have called City Hall, but of course, no one is available. People are telling me its up to the new owner so is it possible for the city to contact them so something can be done about this?
HK Disgruntled Taxpayer
Dear HK:
There is an ordinance in West Haven that reads, “Residentially zoned premises not occupied by a structure in which grass weeds or similar vegetation (excluding flowers, fruits and vegetables, is allowed to reach and remain at the height of eight inches or greater for a period of ten days or longer.:
Dear Eleanore Turkington:
If a vehicle is parked on city streets and not moved for a week or so, it is tagged by the police. How is it that a white truck with an out-of-state plate is parked on Front Avenue just before Quigley Stadium abandoned for years, not tagged or towed allowed to stay there? When driving up Front Avenue toward this truck you must avoid it by coming to the edge of the double line to avoid oncoming buses or semis making deliveries to businesses across from the stadium. Please explain the double standard here.
Just Curious, RZ
Dear RZ:
I forwarded a copy of your letter to Councilman Mitchell Gallignano and have not yet received a reply. Watch for an explanation in Gripe Vine soon.
Gripe Vine Readers:
I have been told there is a deep dip in the sidewalk just on the border of Milford and West Haven. Please be careful!
Dear Eleanore Turkington:
There is dumping ag Stevens Avenue along the section by the woods toward Spring Street by the back entrance to the VA. There is constantly dumping there because there are no streetlights here at all.

All quality of life comments. All very sad to read. All all these violations can be enforced by people qualified to do. If I was in charge of economic development I would implement a specific, legal, community based solution to address blight and quality of life infringements. Everybody deserves quality of life, Nobody has the right to downgrade their neighbors enjoyment of their home. , Blight ( noise / trash / public safety / etc.) devalues every neighborhood, damages sustainability, quality of life, & economic development.
