Dear Eleanore Turkington:
I have been writing to you complaining about the condition of Lakeview Avenue. Has the city done anything yet to correct this sidewalk’s condition?
Safety Hazard
Dear Safety Hazard:
I have published the photo you submitted displaying the condition of the sidewalk on Lakeview Avenue as well as responses from Francis Withington, West Haven’s complaint officer. Withington has asked to have the sidewalk beveled and marked, but says, “Lakeview Avenue is on the list. There are no funds left in this budget to do them. Although paving will begin but this street is not on this year’s list or budget.
“Safety Hazard,” although this news is not helpful, please keep in touch with Gripe Vine. I really want to keep this sidewalk’s condition in the public’s eyes.
Dear Eleanore Turkington:
There are school buses blocking driveways so you can’t see to get out blocking stop signs and bus stops. I called the bus company, but it is still happening.
Worried Motorist
Dear Worried:
I have notified West Haven’s Complaint Officer, Francis Withington of your concern anticipating an improvement. Please don’t hesitate to notify Gripe Vine if you see this happening again and try to get the number of the buses that are blocking driveways. Send this information to me and I will see that city officials receive this information.
Dear Eleanore Turkington:
I constantly read of traffic issues on Ocean Avenue that somehow keep recurring. I would like to see some attention given to Union Avenue near Wood Street. Cars speed up and down this road constantly and as the accident that occurred recently in West Haven, it attests it’s extremely dangerous. Please get some help.
UA
Dear UA:
You have just given me an idea. It would be helpful, really helpful to the safety of pedestrians and, if we could provide the West Haven Police Department on a regular basis, trouble spots in our city.
So, readers send me an email or drop me a note, listing the safety problems on your neighborhood streets. Let’s see if we can improve these hazardous conditions.
The streets listed in today’s columns will be read and checked out by our men and women in blue, you can be sure.
Dear Eleanore Turkington:
We want to say thank you very much for your help with getting the city to cut down the tree stump on the corner of Anderson Avenue and Thomas Street. The crew did a really good job and cleaned up nicely when they were done. We appreciate your effort in getting this resolved for us.
