Dear Eleanore Turkington:
I understand the City of West Haven has something called the “Boot Law.” I have a friend who mentioned she had gotten “tagged” because she parks her car here but lives in Florida. Can you explain this law. I plan to spend some time in Florida even though I live here permanently. It’s really difficult trying to get past the recordings at City Hall and this information would be not only helpful to me, but to your readers as well.
West Haven Resident
Dear Resident:
It understands what you mean about trying to get through recorded messages, happens to me all the time. So, I am hoping the information I’m providing today, will be helpful to you and others.
West Haven’s Tax Collector is Dorothy Chambrelli. I wrote to Ms. Chambrelli, several weeks ago asking for an explanation of the “Boot Law” in West Haven. I also asked her how much money has been generated from this program as well. I haven’t received any word from her yet. Until I hear from Mrs. Chambrelli with a detailed explanation of the “Boot Law” in West Haven I will try to provide you and my readers with a little helpful info.
The “Boot Program” penalizes those people who are wrongly registered as out of state but spend a great deal time in West Haven. This fact is determined by the out-of-town license plates mounted on their automobiles. The exact details of this program are best described by an explanation from the West Haven’s tax office. However, some residents have legitimate reasons for having a car with out-of-state plate possibly, a rental car, a relative intown or having just moved here.
Gripe Vine will keep you updated on this issue.
Dear Eleanore Turkington:
Rockdale Road has a house that has been sitting abandon for the past five years. The owner started building it and ran out of money and now the shell of a house looks like an eyesore. The city has been contacted many times and the mayor is well aware of the problem, yet nothing is being done.
Somebody get this junk taken down! Our neighborhood looks like garbage!
RAI
Dear RAI:
I have notified Councilman Peter Massaro of your complaint. I will inform my readers in my next column what results we were able to confirm. Let me know if you see any activity at this site [email protected]
Dear Eleanore Turkington:
I have been caught under the light blocking the intersection at Kelsey and Main,, because the light at Wagner and Elm have not changed. This causes such a backup the traffic moves through it and then stops stranding some under the light, which is still green, but turns red while one sits under it. Then one blocks the Main Street traffic gridlock personified
I once tried to get the Traffic Division at the police department for a senior citizen who complained about the blinking light at Campbell by the VA. It has nothing to do with it, but evidently when I mentioned the Economic Commission in a post on the Next-door West Shore, she thought I had some sort of power. I felt I might as well try to help. Got the name from the mayor’s office and sent an email explaining the woman’s misgivings about turning left under a blinking light with oncoming traffic.
Never heard anything, whatever and nothing changed.
So, I am not hopeful that anything will change at the intersection until there is an accident. If then.
Thank you for your efforts.
