Gripe Vine Readers:
In my last column, I published a letter of complain from residents in the Enright Street area who complained of cars “flying though a stop sign at a school bus stop at this site. The police were notified, but this breaking of the law continued. A child was also placed in real danger here with the motorists continuing the dangerous practice.
I notified the district councilman in this area, Peter Massaro who promptly replied, “I just called the police about this, and they are going to monitor the street. With school starting they are going to be busy, but they told me they will get on it.”
I am hoping people in the Enright Street neighborhood will keep in touch with me and I will do my best to ensure safety for the children by working with the various city offices, including Councilman Peter Massaro.
Dear Eleanore Turkington:
I recently found your column and I really appreciate what you do.
I write today to ask you to add a problem to the pothole list. There is a large pothole in the road that is at the bottom of my driveway. It has been there awhile and has gotten quite deep and it is on 95 Park Terrace.

Dear West Haven Resident:
Your District’s Councilwoman Melii Garthwait was notified indicating she notified city authorities of this pothole. I will be waiting to hear if your problem was resolved. Please let me know when this happens..
Dear Eleanore Turkington:
The blight along the shoreline between Washington and Second Avenues continues to get worse and gives our city a rundown appearance.
While it is unfortunate that not much seems to be happening at the old Debonnaire and Chick’s eyesores, our leaders have the ability to address the run-down skate park property. It is disgraceful that this under-utilized parcel is allowed to get worse year after year.
Many cities across the country have developed parks for the immensely popular sport of Pickle Ball, which appeals to all age groups. II suggest that our leaders take a look at the blighted skate park and improve our city by tearing it down and constructing new pickle ball courts. Besides beautifying that part of our shoreline. It will be a welcome recreation for all residents.
George Gorham
Your district’s Councilwoman Meli Garthwait replied to your comments with, “I am not aware of any skate park on 2nd Avenue and Washington like your email says. However, there is a skate park on Beach Street that is completely run down. It could potentially be demolished with the Beach Street roadway raise project that will hopefully begin next year. “
Dear Eleanore Turkington:
Fountain Terrace has become a speedway for cars between Hopkins, Curtis Drive and Fountain Street. The cars come over the steep hill over Curtis, or onto Fountain Terrace and Fountain Street 35 to 45mph. There are no sidewalks on Fountain Street and this hazard invites an accident waiting to happen. There is also another hazard a series of potholes at the crest of the hill going down into Curtis Drive.
Worried Resident
Dear Worried Resident:
I contacted your District Councilman, Victor Borras, back on Aug. 5 and have not heard from him. Hopefully, publishing your letter of a dangerous complaint, the West Haven Police Department will check this area out. Meanwhile as soon as I hear from Councilman Borras his reply will appear in this column.
