Dear Eleanore Turkington:
Please clear the numerous sections on the odd side of Hillcrest Avenue of crumbling asphalt especially in the winter as we have been dealing with this hazard for at least three years.
Last year a big chunk of this debris got stuck in my neighbor’s snowblower . Unfortunately, it gets plowed up by public works snowblower drivers. It also gets spread all over the grass and sidewalks. This street is also used for Public Works.
Hillcrest Avenue Resident
Dear Resident:
Your District Councilwoman, Bridgett Hoskie was notified of this condition on Hillcrest Avenue. She replied, “I will send this to Public Works.” Please let me know if this problem has been solved. Email me at [email protected] or send a note to Gripe Vine c/o West Haven Voice 840 Boston Post Road, West Haven 06516
Dear Eleanore Turkington:
Never had I have anyone from the councils come and ask my opinion for West Haven. Our street at the corner of Fairfax and Route 1 floods up to your car doors at times, and I reported it to city hall, 3rd floor and nothing.
Second, we do not need the brewery at the convention center. Let’s bring the Veterans Trailer and get a Trailer for the artifacts for the Savin Rock Museum. That is where it belongs at the Rock, not the brewery near the school or playground. The traffic is bad enough and putting the children that walk to school in danger. Put it at the havens now that there is nothing that is going to happen there.
TD
Dear TD:
To address the first part of your letter referring to flooding at Fairfax and Route 1, I have notified your District Council Representative, Robbin Hamilton, of this condition. The reply, “I have forwarded this to the Public Works Commissioner.”
Dear Eleanore Turkington:
When will Savin Avenue and Campbell Avenue be repaved?
Just Curious
Dear Just Curious:
Following a request from Gripe Vine for a reply, Meli Garthwait, your Council Representative, this response arrived, “I am not sure if there is paving planned for Savin and Campbell. I have copied Public Works t try to find out if there is any on the list.“
To date, no update response.
Dear Eleanore Turkington:
The pond at Lake Street and Ocean Avenue has algae that needs to be treated to prevent mosquitos from breeding as well as invasive phragmites that are choking out the natural beauty.
William Hackett
Dear William Hackett:
Your District Council Representative, Robert Bruneau replied, ““I am assuming we are talking about the pond at the corner of Lake and Ocean Avenue. Lake Street is treated on a regular basis by the City Health Department. I am going to confirm the treatments are up to date. Our City Engineer is going to set up a consultation with DEP which I will be a part of to see what can be done to slow the growth and possibly thin out the phragmites moving forward.
Gripe Vine Readers:
I have received complaints about the potholes at 95 Park Circle and Savin Avenue, According to District Council Woman, Meli Garthwait,”I have not received a response from Public Works. I will keep you updated. On another later date, a follow up reply from Meli Garthwait, “I called these into Public Works- multiple times in fact.”
This complaint will be addressed again as soon as I receive a follow up reply from District Council Garthwait.
Gripe Vine Readers:
I received many complaints about the Brown Street sidewalk hazardous condition. Eric Chiarelli, Project Coordinator and Sidewalk Inspector for the City of West Haven replied, “Brown Street has been completed two months ago under the ARPA funds for child Safety. All the schools throughout the city had replacements of sidewalks for the safe passage of the children to and from school. Every school was completed one week before the start of the new school year.
Coming up: murals removed from local restaurant..Peck Avenue potholes…illegal parking at baseball field…face masks at senior center..crumbling sidewalks on Hillcrest Avenue…numerous cats on Valleybrook Road…repave potholes on Church Street and much more.
