Dear Eleanore Turkington:
Here’s a gripe — the Orange and Green Program! With all the apartments in town who will not be participating, and as you stated, only 1600 homes so far will, will it make a difference? I compost and refuse to use ‘orange bags’ for garbage. What is the reason for no white or black bags? Believe me this violation sticker will not be tolerated.
I have already seen 1/3 green bags, yes only 1/3 green bags, yes, only half-filled on the curb. Not everyone has or use garbage cans, more waste? Can you see hot summer days with maggots scattered all over our already “pristine city”?
Is it true, also, to replenish will come at cost of .025 each? Another tax on the horizon!
The million dollars we are promised should go towards repaying what our esteemed leaders let be stolen and now we are paying the price. Landfills are teeming and overflowing but this program will not solve much other than annoy and aggravate an already tired public with everything.
Put your minds together and come up with programs to show the ignorant how to reduce and recycle, Go to manufacturers who wrap every little darn thing. Leave the little guy alone.
And for your survey on fire hydrants, it’s a shame we are forgetting about 911. I’d like to see all fire hydrants painted red and white and blue to respect the agonies of that day. There is one hydrant right near the high school painted a bright yellow that should be repainted.
Disgusted WH Citizen
Dear Disgusted:
I have always encouraged my readers to express their disappointment in various West Haven conditions, whether they reflect various unsightly scenes, , be it poor roads, dilapidated buildings, unclean beaches and more. There are times when it is very difficult t o get city officials to make improvements, but when these complaints appear in black and white, I am always hopeful there will be a city representative or department head that will take the initiative and make the right moves.
So, readers, KEEP THEM COMING!
Dear Eleanore Turkington:
We need more signs around the city to encourage residents and visitors to help keep West Haven clean!
I hope you will be able to print these pictures in your column today.
