Dear Eleanore Turkington:
I have been waiting to see the lights come on at Captain Thomas Boulevard. It is dark and dangerous. When will we see it brighter in this area?
Waiting
Dear Waiting:
According to West Haven Complaint Officer, Fran Withington, the new LED lights have arrived and should be installed within two weeks.
Last week, I received an email from an interested motorist who said, “As I am driving by right now, the new Captain Thomas Lights are being installed.”
Dear Eleanore Turkington:
When will Campbell Avenue become smooth and easier driving? I am so tired of the pot holes and rough patches. Please help!
Driver
Dear Driver:
“Campbell Avenue and Forest Road paving is complete and smooth sailing”, says Francis Withington, West Haven Complaint Officer.
Dear Eleanore Turkington:
Why are the beaches overflowing with shells, many of which are broken pieces and tough on the feet?
Beach Lover
Dear Beach Lover:
Francis Withington, Complaint Officer for the City of West Haven replied to your complaint with, “The only place that there are a lot of seashells is at the Linwood Street Beach (South Street) because the beach comber cannot get there. From a portion of South Street, all the way to Chick’s, the beach is cleaned daily. We do not go beyond the high water mark. The tide goes in and out twice daily and washed them ashore. We don’t have no control over that.
However, I have contacted the state for permission to rake that area. In the meantime, the summer youth employment group walked that area and cleaned as much as possible until the state permits us to do it with the beach machine.
Gripe Vine Readers:
I have received numerous complaints regarding traffic light complaints; Kelsey Avenue and Route 34 and Central Avenue. These complaints were directed to Francis Withington, Complaint Officer for West Haven. “The traffic light at Kelsey Avenue is in the hands of the West Haven Police Department and the light on Route 34 and Central is in the hands of the state. Both authorities have been notified.”
Readers, please let me know if you see an improvement at these two sites.
Gripe Vine Readers:
Apparently, motorcyclists have cut back on their speeding and loudness this summer. This is the first year that Gripe Vine has not received as many complaints. If I am in error, PLEASE let me know and I will continue to pursue the battle of a quieter summer in West Haven.
However, if you are a “rider” and read my column, please consider the residents living on the street you’re riding. Don’t (according to state law) operate your motorcycle between lanes of traffic and no more than two motorcycles abreast in any single traffic lane. Safety…most important.
