Dear Eleanore Turkington:
I finally had to say something about how people aren’t taking driving seriously. People don’t take the laws/rules for driving serious anymore. People are running red lights, turning right on red when there is a sign posted “No Turning on Red,” passing you on the right, talking or texting on their phones and putting on make-up.
On the highway, I had our cruise control locked at 65 and cars are passing me like I am sitting still. The worse thing that I have noticed is the new entrance ramp off Kimberly Avenue for Interstate 95. Not just once but on several occasions, I have been in the right lane waiting for the light to change so I can get on the highway, when all of a sudden, not one but 2, 3 cars decide they don’t have to wait in line and decide to pass the line on the left, which is a left turn lane, then cut in front of the line just at the entrance ramp. Then we wonder why there are so many accidents.
Driving laws are set to protect us, but when you have people that don’t follow these laws, people get hurt.
Frustrated
Dear Eleanore Turkington:
I visited West Haven’s new Motor Vehicle Department recently and I am joining, I am sure, the many attendees who are happy to see this important service added to our city’s facilities. However, I wish the wait wouldn’t be as long as it is. Thank you to those people who organized and implemented DMV to West Haven.
Happy Motorist
Dear Happy Motorist:
Louis Esposito, Executive Assistant to the Mayor responded to reader’s DMV comments with, “The Department of Motor Vehicles has been open for about four weeks and everything seems to be going o.k. The wait times have gone down and we hope it stays that way.”
Dear Eleanore Turkington:
Countless cars refuse to stop at the corner of Benham Hill Road and Hubbard. It is very dangerous for the children here. Can’t something be done to ensure safety here?
Worried
Dear Worried:
I have asked the Mayor’s Executive Assistant, Louis Esposito for some assistance in this area. He responded that your request for police assistance at this location was forwarded to Sergeant Joseph D’Amato of the West Haven Police Department who will have patrol out at that location. Please let me know if there is NOT any improvement here.
Dear Eleanore Turkington:
There is a tree planted on the corner of Laurel Street and Soundview that obstructs the view of oncoming cars. Will this tree be removed or cut back in order to alleviate a potential danger?
BC
Dear BC:
According to Mayor Nancy Rossi’s Executive Assistant, Louis Esposito, your complaint was investigated. According to Esposito he notified Sgt. Joseph D’Amato of the West Haven Police Department who visited this location and indicated there is an obstruction to the traffic view here. I feel confident Esposito will follow up with your complaint with the police department. If you don’t see an improvement within the next week or two, please contact Gripe Vine.
Dear Eleanore Turkington:
Please have someone check out the left turn signal at Elm and Campbell Avenue. It has been out for quite some time. Has anyone repaired it yet?
Dangerous
Dear Dangerous:
Louis Esposito, Mayoral Executive Assistant to Mayor Nancy Rossi responded to Gripe Vine with an update, “I have been informed this problem has been taken care of.”
Dear Eleanore Turkington:
Is there a possibility or update on when West Haven will get uniformed garbage and recycling cans like New Haven for their citizens? I have been told that West Haven was looking into the possibility some time ago.
Hopeful
Dear Hopeful:
According to the Mayor’s Assistant, Louis Esposito, “I’m trying to get some information on this, but I don’t believe we will be able to afford this expense at this time.”
Dear Eleanore Turkington:
I live in a neighborhood where a resident blows snow with his snow blower into the street. This causes a problem for others. When I call the city, no one ever shows up. What’s the regulation on this snow removal concept?
SS
Dear SS:
According to the city’s ordinance, it is unlawful to push snow onto a city street.
Dear Eleanore Turkington:
The garbage truck left a lot of loose rubbish on Mix Avenue and there were plastic barrels that could have been picked up. The truck just drove by and left out what could have been taken. What’s going on?
Really Irritated
Dear Really Irritated:
