Dear Eleanore Turkington:
I would like to complain about a dump stricken area on Coleman Street, adjacent to the VA Medical Center. It is a health hazard and an unsightly view for the residents in this area. Can you please take action to clean and improve this neglected site next to the water brook?
Also, Coleman Street has become a main road and traffic speeds up to 40 to 50 miles which is dangerous for children and adults walking through the already narrow sidewalks. Accidents have already occurred here. I recommend speed bumps be placed in this road.
Thank you for your attention.
Concerned Resident
Dear Concerned Resident:
I have forwarded your complaints to Louis Esposito, Executive Assistant to Mayor Nancy Rossi. His reply, “I have passed this complaint on to our Zoning Department and asked them to let me know what action will be taken. I don’t believe we can put speed bumps in city roads, but I will check on it. I also gave the traffic problem to the Traffic Division of the West Haven Police Department. They will monitor this area.”
Dear Eleanore Turkington:
As a senior citizen living up the street on Leete Street that play music blasting all times of the day and night with obscene lyrics. I can hear it from not being close. It not only keeps me up as it is very loud, but it is in very bad taste. I am not sure what floor it is coming from, but please stop.
Can’t Sleep
Dear Can’t Sleep:
Gripe Vine has received various similar complaints over time, but once again I will publish the ordinance prohibiting such activity.
According to West Haven’s Ordinance Code 146, Chapter 154 (Noise Ordinance) “No person in a residential zone shall emit noise beyond the boundaries of his/her premises exceeding the levels stated herein and applicable to adjacent residential, commercial or industrial zones.”
It is suggested the police be called while this disturbing loud music is occurring. If it continues, write to me and I will follow it further.
Dear Eleanore Turkington:
Dog owners are using the Green for their dogs to relieve themselves. With the pleasant, warmer weather approaching, the Green will be used heavily. Can this practice be stopped?
Nature Lover
Dear Nature Lover:
Thanks to Louis Esposito, Mayor Nancy Rossi’s Executive Assistant, here is his response to your complaint: “I will talk to our press person to try and put something on our website to remind dog owners of their responsibilities and I am also looking into getting some signs.:
Dear Eleanore Turkington:
A short time ago, I asked you about an old house on First Avenue that was being torn down and couldn’t believe the reply. You really covered everything. Growing up on Third Avenue, I drove by that house a thousand times on my Columbia bike in the 50’s. Again, thank you very much
