Dear Eleanore Turkington:
Why does the contractor for West Haven trees take down trees and leaves 10-15 foot stumps behind? The two on the corner of Colonial Boulevard and Honor Road have been there for at least a year.
Curious
Dear Curious:
All three “butts” are done on Colonial Boulevard and Honor Road according to West Haven Complaint Officer, Francis Withington. “They have to mark the stumps for Call Before You Dig and then the stumps will be ground up.”
Dear Eleanore Turkington:
Can you tell me if the yellow center traffic lines on Main Street, lower Campbell Avenue, Elm Street, Kelsey Avenue, Beach Street, Wood Road and Benham Hill Road have been painted yet?
I Care
Dear I Care:
Francis Withington, Complaint Officer for West Haven says, “Most yellow traffic lines are done. The West Haven Police Department and the Public Works Department will be completing this project soon.”
Dear Eleanore Turkington:
I lived in Allingtown all my life and in the last five years, there is no such thing as “quality of life.”
As more renters have taken over they have no regard to actual homeowners. Two family houses now house four to five families, plus there are numerous vehicles registered out of state, which they actually live here and as usual, West Haven does nothing. Yet, we pay increasing taxes (over $8,000) streets littered with trash, loud music, with no regard for others. Additional taxes go to the fire department retirees, as they want to live worry free.
There are many ways the city can raise much needed revenue but as always, nothing gets done, just continue to squeeze the homeowners. Why change?
Let’s be consistent in West Haven without idiotic policies, as why make waves, just continue to tax the homeowners. Writing to the Gripe Vine is just fresh reading material when nature calls.
“Blowin Smoke”
Dear Eleanore Turkington:
Has the pot hole on Brown Street at Walgreen’s exit been filled yet? Wonder how long it will take to fix it?
Nana
Dear Nana:
“The pot hole has been filled,” reported Francis Withingon, city complaint officer.
Gripe Vine Readers:
A gripe arrived on my desk recently complaining about the condition of Colonial Park. I contacted the city on this gripe.
Those of you living in the neighborhood of this park, has the area been cleaned up and is there definitely an improvement?
Please email [email protected] and let me know if anything has been done yet.

Dear Eleanore Turkington:
There are cars going against the one way streets on Park ave & Washington ave almost every week,i dont think theres enough one way signs near the Savin ave school.
These drivers continue to cross over Washington ave and continue to go down Park street to reach campbell ave.
These drivers have blatant disregard for the one way laws.
Harold Adams says
Dear Eleanore Turkington; in reference to the trouble at crosswalk on Capt. Thomas Blvd. There are yield signs to aid pedestrians in use all over our next door city for over ten years now. Currently there are utilized in the hospital and long wharf areas. There is also a speed sentry type which monitors and displays vehicle speed limits.
Possibly someone could lead our safety awareness program and show them these inexpensive and effective measures that have been in use for years in more safety active towns. Upon past dealings with WHPD traffic division on similar issue; I gleefully hope you better results.
P.S. speed sentry is one manufacturer.
