Dear Eleanore Turkington:
Thank you for your help and your connections regarding the sprinklers on Ocean Avenue. ( The letter refers to a complaint of water sprinklers running constantly opposite the fire station.) Gripe Vine investigated and learned from the fire chief at that firehouse, the sprinklers were on city property. Gripe Vine received no reply from the city, but obviously referring to this letter, the city did something about the waste of water and turned them off.
The letter writer continues, “They are off; whether due to the season or done manually, either way, saving West Haven residents at least a small amount of money. I’ll keep you updated next spring.”
SP Ocean Avenue
Dear SP Ocean Avenue:
Thank you for being a caring, money saving resident.
Dear Eleanore Turkington:
I am not writing about a complaint. I do enjoy reading your column every week and I think you do a great job. You had a letter recently from “Tired of it All” relating to an auto accident on Hood Terrace and Saw Mill Road. I believe the letter writer referred to towing her car after an accident. I think the police have to remove the vehicle asap.
However, my idea is for that person to call the triple AAA office and explain the situation. I think the office will suggest that the AAA member make a copy of the towing receipt and mail it in for reimbursement of the $200. This has happened to me before, unless the protocol has changed. Best of luck with this problem.
MI
Dear MI:
Thank you for your input on towing a car following an accident. According to AAA regulations, “Pay for the service and get an itemized receipt which you may submit to AAA for reimbursement consideration.:
Dear Eleanore Turkington:
(This reader refers to earlier complaints of trucks riding on Voss Road, which has drawn a number of resident complaints.) The Sears delivery trucks are guilty of going down Voss Road. I was going through Voss Road one day and a truck was in front of me. I saw him pull into Sears. This easier for them to get off the highway and turn down Voss Road instead of going all the way to Railroad Avenue and taking a left. That’s my guess why they do it.
JC Second Avenue
Dear JC Second Avenue:
The Voss Road gripe has been forwarded to the city many times, responded to once. Gripe Vine will continue to assist readers with this issue.
Dear Eleanore Turkington:
Snow will eventually arrive, and I want to know what the regulations are in West Haven.
Shovel Ready
Dear Shovel Ready:
The local parking bans indicate that under normal snow conditions, once snow begins to fall, a parking ban is in effect on the even-numbered side of most roads, unless one is posted with a “No Parking” sign on the odd side.
A parking ban, during a snow emergency declared by the mayor, a parking ban will run from 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. on both sides of Campbell and Savin Avenue, Morgan Lane, Elm Street, Meloy Road, Second Avenue from Elm to Beach Streets and Main Street from Savin to Washington avenues.
Gripe Vine Readers:
A dangerous sidewalk condition was reported on Linden Street in a recent column. This reader has been trying to have someone from the city visit an evaluate the hazardous situation at this site. I asked my readers to let me know when someone showed up to check this sidewalk. Here is what the letter writer sent Gripe Vine this week:
Dear Eleanore Turkington:
I just read the article on Linden Street an want you to know that no one has been around to even look at the sidewalk or tree stump. No effort on the part of West Haven.
Really Annoyed
Dear Really Annoyed:
The original Linden Street complaint indicated a wheelchair bound resident and school children have to use the street instead of this portion of the damaged sidewalk.
Perhaps Mayor Nancy Rossi will read this column today and assign someone to look at this problem.
Gripe Vine Readers:
As explained in last week’s column, because of the lack of cooperation from the mayor’s office on resident’s gripes, Gripe Vine will publish at least one unanswered complaint a week as I did today re; Linden Street.
Send your gripes, comments and suggestions to [email protected] or mail them to Gripe Vine c/o West Haven Voice, 666 Savin Ave. Please include your name, address and phone number, if you prefer to remain unnamed, include your initials and neighborhood.
