Dear Gripe Vine Readers:
To refresh my readers, I have been receiving your complaints and will publish them in Gripe Vine. My efforts to obtain responses and answers to your issues have been ignored at the mayor’s office. As you may remember, I indicated to Gripe Vine readers that I will publish your complaints in my column anticipating a reply from either the mayor’s office indicating that they have been investigated or a reply from my readers that their gripes were still outstanding. With a new year upon us I am hopeful that the city’s administration team will stand tall and resolve your complaints.
Dear Eleanore Turkington:
I am writing this complaint to state that the Woodside path in Allingtown is a mess! UNH recently completed a construction project and while it looks great, they left the curbing on Woodside Path and Sunset Drive all broken and in pieces and there is curbing that has been damaged from a city plow for over two years now! I know it’s a dead end-street and maybe not a priority but come on, at least replace the cubing to make it look somewhat like a road. Oh and while they are they are at it we could also use a good street sweeping. The leaves are atrocious! Any help is appreciated.

Dear Eleanore Turkington:
I am the president of the Oceanside Condominium (30 units) on Beach Street West Haven.
We are very disappointed that nothing was done regarding paving the street that is in deplorable condition.
Many other streets in town are being paved and they are being paved and they are not in such bad condition as Beach Street. (Washington Avenue and opposite California Street). Our taxes are in excess of $1,000 per month for a 1800 square foot unit. Please respond and help us SAVE OUR STREET.

Dear Eleanore Turkington:
The property at 3 Timberland Drive has been vacant for years and is becoming increasingly dilapidated. Recently, tree limbs fell and knocked down power lines and there were wires down on the street. This site is an eye sore and a safety issue.

Dear Eleanore Turkington:
There is a big pothole in front of my house at 51 Nonquit St. and two huge potholes next door at 55 Nonquit Street. They are extremely dangerous at night.

Dear Eleanore Turkington:
Countless vehicles refuse to stop or even slow down at the stop sign at Benham Hill Road at Hubbard in West Haven. This is a school zone and is unsafe for children.

Dear Eleanore Turkington:
Beware of the huge network of potholes at the end of Bungalow Lane off Second Avenue. The road is too narrow to drive around them.

Dear Eleanore Turkington:
Fountain Terrace has become a speedway by cars using it as a shortcut between Hopkins, Curtis Drive and Fountain Street. They come over the steep hill at Curtis Drive or onto Fountain Terrace from Fountain Street doing 35-40 mph. As there are no sidewalks on Fountain Terrace, this hazard invites an accident waiting to happen. There is also a hazard from a series of potholes at the crest of the hill going down onto Curtis Drive.

Dear Eleanore Turkington:
The trucks on Voss Road continue to invade the area. I haven’t seen a patrol car in the area yet, unless they do it when I’m not here or asleep. At any rate, the trucks don’t seem to be reading the signs on both ends of this thruway.

Dear Eleanore Turkington:
There are large bags of bead left for seagulls and birds at the commuter parking lot, 411 First Avenue, here presenting a problem for commuters’ cars that are filled with bird feces. Can help be provided here?

Dear Eleanore Turkington:
I must look at this bathroom fixture placed on the curb every day. I consider this an eyesore. It was put out for the October pick-up. It is placed on the curb at 102 Peck Ave. and it is still there.
West Haven itself is getting worse every year and now I must look out at this every day.
Please help!

Gripe Vine Readers:
I will be waiting for responses to these complaints from West Haven Mayor Nancy Rossi. It is hoped that she takes action on these issues; some of them invite hazardous conditions and should be addressed.
