Dear Eleanore Turkington’
I wrote to you the latter part of June complaining of heavy traffic consisting of landscaping vehicles, city buses, extra school buses and all the traffic that uses Canton Street for a short cut to Route 34, etc.
In a recent Gripe Vine column, I indicated to you and my readers that I would be notifying the Councilman or Councilwoman in your area of this condition.
I forwarded your complaint to Councilwoman Robin Watt Hamilton who responded with, “Eleanore, I am following up with you to let you know the “No Trucks” signs have been strategically placed on Dogwood and Farwell Streets at the entries of Canton Street.
Also, on the Post Road entry to Tuthill Street. I have made your reader of the posted signs. It is our hope that this will alleviate heavy truck short cuts through this neighborhood.”
Councilwoman Hamilton, thank you!
Dear Eleanore Turkington:
I am writing this letter regarding the non-residents parking at will, specifically Oak Street and West Haven Beaches. On Aug. 4 I counted 20 non-residents and three parking in handicap spots.
I spoke with the mayor’s office on Aug. 5 and was promised there would be a more of a police presence.
The next Sunday it was worse. My friend had to wait for a parking space and was yelled at by a non-resident who wanted the space.
The constable leaves at 3 or 4 p.m. There are no police on bikes or walking, and a police car just rides through.Numerous other people have complained with no results. Thank you for any help you can give on this problem.
