Gripe Vine Readers:
Before I begin my column this week, I would like to place this thought-provoking information with you and welcome your input on its merit.
We all, I am sure, aware of the importance of the many environmental issues that confront us daily. However, for most of us we are aware of the dangers of coping with plastic items that place stress on our waters, land and everyday living .
Recently, plastic bags that hold our merchandise from retailers and other outlets are not free anymore. I always thought that such a charge was part of the cost of doing business. As we all know, because of the dangers of plastic on our planet, the public is advised to use less or no use at all of these carriers. However, a little research provided me with an interesting thought. We are being charged ten cents for each bag. From what I was able to research the retailer, on an average, pays $20 for 1,000 shirt-size bags, resulting in a cost of two cents a bag. The customer is being charged ten cents a bag.
I would love to hear from my readers on these figures. Interesting?
Gripe Vine Readers:
Recently, Gripe Vine received and published a complaint relating to a pothole near a catch basin on Eileen Road. Apparently, the opening is getting larger and larger.
A thank you to Councilwoman Portia Bias; the hole was filled and a reply from my reader, “The pothole was filled last Tuesday. Hopefully that works.”
I hope so as well. Let me know if it opens again.
Gripe Vine Readers:
I have been asked when the Boot Program status will be published. Please note, Last month, I contacted Dorothy Chambrelli, Tax Collector with the following Boot Program questions: What is the Boot Program status presently, specifically delinquent statements, how often does your office control out of city residents and their ability to respond and I also want to add, how much revenue has this program generated the past year. Also is this program being implemented presently. Taxpayers should have this information provided regularly. Publishing this information would provide thousands of West Haven taxpayers with revenue information.
I would hope Mayor Nancy Rossi will encourage Ms. Chambrelli to respond to my readers through Gripe Vine on this issue.

I am still receiving complaints on dogs relieving themselves on the city’s Green. Apparently, the city has one sign and it is faded. If you are a dog owner and have or have not seen this sign prohibiting this practice, please drop me a line or an email, and Gripe Vine will make strong efforts to have a second sign and the first sign, more legible.
