Senior captain North Hansen finished second in both his freestyle events this past weekend at the CIAC State Open Swim Meet that was held at Yale University’s Kiphuth Pool. Hansen broke both his own school records in each event, earning all-American consideration in the process.
Hansen swam the 200 freestyle in 1:40.28 and the 500 freestyle in 4:30.45. He finished second to Ridgefield’s Kieran Smith, who just happens to own the record in both events at the State Open and State Meet level and will swim at the University of Florida next year and is arguably the best high school swimmer in Connecticut.
More impressively, Hansen’s times will be submitted to NISCA and if Hansen’s times are in the top 100 in the country, he will be named an all-American.

Hansen also swam on the 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle relay teams that placed 22nd overall. He swam the 200 relay with fellow seniors Cam Jurzyk, Ben Hassen, and junior Bill Hinckley. The 400 freestyle relay featured Hansen, Jurzyk, Hinckley, and fellow co-captain Shawn Parrott.
