The West Haven Seahawks 8U team (12-0) beat the Mount Hope Cowboys (11-1), 7-0, in the New England Pop Warner semi-final on Saturday. The game matched the Connecticut and Rhode Island 8U (7-and 8-year-old) state champions.
The game was held at the athletic facilities of LaSalle Academy in Providence. The Seahawks and Cowboys both utilized fast and physical defenses.
The Seahawks scored in the second quarter on a 28-yard Tristian Crawford touchdown run that included three broken tackles.
The Seahawks’ defense held a very talented Cowboy offense off the scoreboard. William Pastore, Jacari Harris, Mason Booker, Jayden Spell and Kayden Desruisseaux leading the way.
The Seahawks will travel to play the Massachusetts champion Dorchester Eagles (12-0) for the New England Pop Warner Football Championship on Saturday.
The game will be played at the Manning Bowl, Lynn, Mass. (time TBA). The 8U level is only competitive to the regional level and the winner of the regional championship Saturday does not travel to the National Pop Warner Championships this year.
