The West Haven Historical Society’s Graveyard Lantern Tour is scheduled for this Saturday Oct.21. Tours begin at the Poli House, 686 Savin Ave., from 5- 7:30 p.m.. Price is $10 for adults, $5 for children 12 and under.
This year five people will be “resurrected” for the evening and will share their life stories. Among the decedents are two people pictured here: Pauline Lang, a principal founder of the West Haven Community House and Rufus Porter, a frequent visitor to West Haven who is buried in Oak Grove Cemetery. He was an “itinerant painter” who gained prominence as a muralist throughout New England and became first publisher/owner of what is today the journal Scientific America.
Groups will be escorted to the Green and there met by members of the Historical Society who will lead each group to the Old Burial Grounds. There is no Rain Date for this event.
