The last two weeks have seen plenty of action in the West Haven Youth Soccer League. The Keenan Funeral Home Maroon Dragons had a great game against the West Haven Italian American Civic Association. Caleb Horvath was on fire netting three goals. Kenneth Fernandez made several key assists and showcased great teamwork throughout the game. The Dayton Street Apizza Blue Knights showed a great effort aga-nst the West Haven Federation of Teachers. Arnold Okyere and Cyncere Harris followed through on their chances and scored for Dayton Street Pizza, while Ace Haughton worked hard in the midfield to support his teammates.
The West Haven Elks Lodge 1537 Blue Lightning played an awesome game against P&B Express, with multiple goals made by Axel Carrozza and Oliver Bacon. Great defensive plays by Kaison Longley-Burgos, Conor Peckham, and Ethan Amankwah kept their team in the game. Stars Ice Cream played Batts Plumbing, coming out on top, 6-0. Miguel Perez showed a lot of progress in the game, scoring the first goal, while Matias Palacios Montero gave him the assist. Noah Camacho did a great job in goal, getting his first clean sheet. Stars Ice Cream also played Nick’s Luncheonette, falling 6-4. Akif Alhassan scored the first goal off an assist from Alexander Barragán. James Bayona did great in goal, keeping the game close.
P&B Express battled Porto Funeral Home on Saturday. Ayyoub Shaftet and Turker Tuzcu scored goals for the team. Andrew Cenotti hustle today blocking several balls from going toward the goal. Logan Thompson hustled today, keeping pressure on the opponent’s defense. Kadmiel Meridith dominated the midfield and controlled the ball and made several passes to Josiah Cabrera and Caiden Silas. Milano & Wanat Grey Wolves won, 6-2 ,against West Haven Police Local 895. Tyler Franklin, Noah Johnson and Will Marmelstein all had two goals apiece. The entire team showed great improvement in communication.
RQ Accounting &Tax Services played a series of games to start the season, opening against Connex Credit Union. Khaleesi Moore led the team in the first game of the season in goals, while Ana Moore-Torres was a big help with her speed and hustle. Kallie Pharr played great defense in the game. They next played the Gilded Gals. Millie Azano and Fatou O’Henry had an outstanding day, both leading the team in goals. Emily Smullen chipped in goals as well and played solid defense to close out the game. RQ Accounting and Tax Services next took on American Legion Post 71. Milan Matheson had her best game yet, helping her team in the midfield and hustling back on defense. Madelyn Zotti also had a stellar day making great passes that contributed to her team’s many goals of the day. For American Legion Post 71 Keylianiz Garcia Perez played outstanding defense, always staying close to the ball and stepping up to stop every attack. Her quick reactions and strong positioning kept the opponents away from the goal all game long.
Elsie Encarnacion State Farm Ins jumped out to an early lead against Frankie’s of West Haven thanks to Jeremiah Davilla’s hard ground shot inside the goal post. That shot was soon followed by Shane Foley’s well-placed arcing shot that sailed just over the opposing keeper’s outstretched arms. Joseph Nunoo and Alden Puente contributed to the attack, and Luka Satterfield played strong defense.
Baybrook Remodelers played Top Hat Dance Academy. Charlotte Murray and Avalyn Wilder both scored in the win. LilithBelle Warcholic blocked every attempt at goals in the net. Stars Ice Cream played George Ellis Company his past Saturday, winning 7-6. Christian Ramirez opened up the scoring and Gavin Lenihan gave him the assist. Jaime Dias did great in goal. Physicians Physical Therapy tied Frankie’s of West Haven. Sterling Masterson had multiple shots on goal, and Josh Peters blocked all shots on goal in the first half while Eli Sinusas played strong defense. Physicians Physical Therapy also played a tough game against a strong Milano & Wanat, falling 7-2. Xavier Rios and Shavier Medley scored goals in the loss, while Karol Miranda Figueroa played great defense on the other side of the field. For Milano & Wanat, Dylan Grant led the way with three goals. Will Marmelstein and Tyler Franklin also contributed two goals each, while Cian Sullivan did well in goal.
P & B Express played Keenan Funeral Home. Xander, Kadmiel Turker and Ayyoub Shafter scored a few goals putting our team on top to win the game, 13-9. Elias Ortiz, Turker Tuzcu, and Elliott Jones controlled the midfield to push the ball forward. Andrew Cenotti defended the goal very well and Logan Thompson dribbled well. For the Keenan Funeral Home Maroon Dragons, Christian Venta Aguilar and Daniel Barnes both scored multiple goals.
Cappetta’s Italian Imports squared off with West Shore Family Dental in an exciting showdown. Cappetta’s newest members Lia and Mackenzie Cummings pushed themselves to help their team drive down the field and win against a tough opponent. Both of the Cummings twins showed grit in this matchup. The West Haven Police Union Local 895 Wildcats played a hard-fought game against Milano & Wanat but fell short. Jonathan Diaz put a lot of offensive pressure on with Liam Rodriguez helping on the defensive end.
In travel team action, the West Haven U14 boys hosted Naugatuck in an 8-4 win. Ryan Abekah, Roland Green, Julian Castillo, Mohammed and Adam Lamkhantar, and Davonte King picked up goals in the win. Jacob Rader and Seth Empric anchored the backline, allowing Ethan Fonseca, Matteo D’Elia, and Mason DaSilva to attack from the midfield. The boys next traveled to Guilford to face its U15 squad, winning 6-1.
Ben Trenchard helped shut down the Guilford attack, while Julian Bautista patrolled the wings. Derek Rawls scored twice in the win, while Jaxon Cruz and Enzo Cordova were stellar in goal. On Sunday, the Westies traveled to Milford and lost 4-3 in a tight match-up. Taha Ozhan worked hard, and Green found the back of the net multiple times. Joseph Ruiz and Collin Gibbons were strong on defense.
The West Haven U10 girls played a close game against Meriden. The first half of the game West Haven held Meriden at 0-0. But in the second half Meriden scored twice. Melody Feliciano was all over the field as a tough defender. With a few minutes left, Ayah Lamkhantar scored a goal for West Haven, getting the girls on the board, but falling short for the win.
