In the third week of the West Haven Youth Soccer League season, the Gunning Law Firm Yellow Jackets defeated Shoreline Wellness, 4-1. Alessia Coletta opened the scoring early on with a right-foot shot. Lehanna Philogene got her second goal of the young season. Emma Routh also got involved in the scoring with her first goal of the season. For Shoreline Wellness, Harper Golde gave goaltending a try and made some great saves. Chelsea Frost and Vanessa Whetzel played really tough on defense and the Davila sisters did well at forward.
The Elite Soccer Camps Red Rangers took on Porto Funeral Homes, winning a close game, 6-4. The Rangers passed the ball very well, with Benjamin Trenchard, Emmett Hemming, Jax Guarino and Matteo D’Elia finding teammates in open space. Jacob Rader, Seth Empric, and Luca DeCrescenzo scored, while Elias Padilla and Nathan D’Aurio showed a lot of hustle in the win for the Rangers.
The Vio’s Sports Plus Maroon Wolf’s played the Connell Scott Hill Health Center Gold Ninjas. The two teams played tough, but the Wolfs came out on top, 8-6. Connell Scott Hill Health Center team showed great teamwork and attacked on the offenses side. The Wolf’s Jayden Kaufman and Liam Ramirez scored in key moments of the game. While Blaise Shubin and Benedict Awuah made game-changing stops. As a team the Wolfs played well and played with a lot of energy. For the Ninjas, Liam Rowland showed a lot of hustle and heart, Sami Vahora displayed his stamina and dedication, and Zeke Hanlin worked hard for to get the hat trick.
The Stars Ice Cream Sharks defeated Rock House School of Music, 6-1. The Sharks were led by Haley Colon, Sarahi Cruz and Sydni Gayle who all scored. Martharyta Buren and Layla Puente played good defense in the win.
The Sports Sanitizing of CT Doritos played P & B Express, with the game ending in a 4-4. Sebastian Rivas and Adam Lennon led the way with a goal each for the Doritos. Jadiel Ramos contributed with excellent defending. Trent Fagan had a strong performance in goal, making several nice saves.
Baybrook Remodelers topped Seacrest Retirement Center, 4-1. Excellent goalkeeping was on display by Stephen Christensen and goals scored by Caleb Awuah, David Christensen and Christian Reyes. Jaden Williams played an excellent game in the field.
The R. Mark Pappas D.C. Blue Lightning played a stout Cappetta’s Italian Imports in a close, hard-fought game, with the Lightning winning, 9-8. The contest went back and forth several times, with both teams taking a turn holding the lead. The Blue Lightning were led on offense by Allyson Hernandez-Arce, Stella Porto and Phoebe Dinuzzo. The defense was anchored by Anne Charles and Ava and Taliah Boykin. For Cappetta Italian Imports, Juliana Aviles helped to control the ball and goals were scored by Kai Ruotolo, Celeste DiNallo, and Luciana Cappetta. The First Congregational Church Tigers battled #DavilaTribe to a 3-3 draw in the final game of the day on Saturday.
In travel team action, the Sweet Relief U11 Girls traveled to Shelton, tying the game, 2-2. Goals scored by Braelynn Elliot and Haleigh McCarthy with an assist from Sophia Empric on both goals. The U11 girls also traveled to Milford and tied 2-2 again. Both West Haven goals were scored in the first half by Elliot and Hailey Dargon. Sophia Locklear played a strong game in center midfield. Lynnie Chesson played goalie on the second half, she had multiple great saves and did not allow Milford to score again.
The West Haven Italian-American Civic Association U9 girls took on Cheshire on Sunday. The first half saw the Westies get down by two goals. Still, the Westies managed to battle back and even up the scoring in the second half with great goals by Karine Davila and Allison Hernandez. In what was a hard-fought battle, Cheshire manage to get the winning goal with two minutes left. The U10 girls were on the road against Guilford Sunday, showing excellent teamwork on the field. Annabelle Fiorillo dominated in defense against, with Josylyn DaVila and Olivia Petrie making great saves in goal. Luciana Cappetta scored for West Haven, ending in a 2-2 tie.
