Former Waterbury Democrat Mayor Michael Jarjura came to West Haven City Hall Monday afternoon to formally endorse the write-in candidacy of Steven R. Mullins for mayor of West Haven.
In 2005, Jarjura was elected Mayor as a write-in candidate in Waterbury. There, he fought against corruption and fiscal mismanagement following the arrest of Republican Mayor Phillip Giordano0.
“I know that Steven will do an excellent job at restoring financial integrity to the great City of West Haven,” said Jarjura, who is now a practicing attorney-at-law.
In addition to Jarjura, Mullins received the endorsements of Republican City Councilwoman-at-Large Colleen O’Connor, as well as Republican 6th District Council candidate Dominic Konareski.
“He’s not only active in the community at election time. He’s active every single day, seven days a week,” Konareski said.
O’Connor, who is seeking re-election on the Independent Party ticket was unable to attend the endorsement event in person, but sent a statement that was read by Konareski.
“Steven Mullins has done so much for West Haven. He has worked with all sides and just wants to do the correct thing for the whole city. I believe if elected Steve will do a wonderful job as mayor,” she said.
Jimmie Griffin, past President of the Greater Waterbury Chapter of the NAACP, who recently moved to West Haven was also on hand to give his support, along with his wife.
