The soccer team inches toward a state tournament berth, and the cross country team had a pair of successful runs, while the football team enjoyed some rest on their bye week heading into their home game against Bunnell on Friday.
Cross-Country — Jacob Carson was Notre Dame’s top runner as the Green Knights cross country team split a dual-meet with Hamden and Xavier to finish that portion of its season with a 7-2 mark. This is a one-win improvement from 2019. In the meet with Xavier and Hamden, the Green Knights and Falcons split the top 10 finishers. Xavier, ranked second in the latest state poll, had the top 3 runners to win both matchups.
The Green Knights had runners place fourth, fifth, and sixth to make one of the elite programs in Connecticut work for their win. Following Carson’s fourth-place finish, Ohm Patel ran fifth and Oliver Shannon finished sixth. Carson ran in 17:24, Patel in 17:25 and Shannon in 17:50. Carson and Patel were within two seconds of Xavier’s finishing times. Patel was the top Green Knight runner at the Wickham Invitational on Saturday, October 12 helping lead the Green Knights to an 8th place finish. Patel, who finished 34th overall out of 214 runners, ran in 17:55. He was followed across the finish line by Carson, who ran in 18:10 and Gabe Quinn, who finished 13 seconds later in 18:23.
Football — The Notre Dame football team didn’t win nor lose last week as they enjoyed some down time to regroup for the second half of their season. Notre Dame gets back on the field returning to Veterans Field to host Bunnell on Friday in a 7 pm kickoff. The Green Knights are 2-2, having won their last two games against Platt and Amity.
Soccer — Thomas Ellis continued his torrid scoring spree, tallying seven goals last week as the Green Knights won two of their three games. Ironically, Ellis’ highest scoring game was a hat trick in a 6-5 loss to cross-town rival West Haven. His three goals were matched by a hat trick from Aldo Barragan, including the game winner with less than 10 minutes left. Ellis then added two goals apiece in wins over East Haven on Oct, 9 and North Haven on Oct. 12. Ellis has now tallied in six of the last seven games and has 14 goals and 2 assists on the season. Notre Dame is now 5-6 on the season.
