City needs a balanced budget each year
It is with great disappointment that MARB did not accept the West Haven budget as presented. We can all agree that the state has its own issues with budgeting and money, and has chosen to not accept our budget. Even by their skimpy standards, it was unacceptable!
The mayor and City Council have been working on this for weeks, under direction from the MARB itself. The fact that the MARB rejected the budget proves that they could not or would not follow the instructions given.
Just as the state is doing, the city needs to tighten its belt and do more cutting.
Perhaps it is time to call in an efficiency manager- contract worker, of course- and re-evaluate.
As citizens of West Haven, we have a right to know if the City Council accepted this budget knowing that MARB would not accept it and would impose a tax hike- that they could then blame on MARB.
We have the right to demand a balanced budget.
