Support for SNAP gets Maroney her vote for new term
The federal government passed legislation that cut billions of dollars from SNAP and Medicaid coverage. These changes will kick off thousands of vulnerable families from having access to food assistance and affordable healthcare coverage.
Sen. James Maroney and the state legislature stepped in with funding to help fill the gap, this included $115 million from an emergency response to help offset federal cuts from Washington D.C. As a retired social care worker, I want to ensure that Connecticut Department of Social Services is properly equipped with resources and funding to deal with changes to critical programs like SNAP and HUSKY. Without the proper resources, we will see thousands of vulnerable families and individuals lose access to food assistance and healthcare.
West Haven receives over $1.3 million in funding for SNAP food assistance programs and has almost 25,000 enrollees in the state’s Medicaid plan, HUSKY. Senator James Maroney understood that his district and state needed swift action in creating protections from impending federal cuts and changes that will impact the most vulnerable communities. This is why I will be voting for Senator James Maroney for State Senate this November 3rd.
I hope you can join me in re-electing Senator James Maroney to continue his excellent leadership in Hartford.
