Consider Cohen for Mayor
On July 22, it was my honor to place the name of Barry Lee Cohen as the West Haven Republicans’ unanimous choice to be the next mayor of West Haven. Being that Barry’s campaign is “One West Haven,” I’d like to share the following:
Barry is genuine, direct, and very passionate about public service. As the first Republican elected in 30 years to a district council seat, Barry has worked above and beyond his duties as councilperson because the people — all people — of West Haven are Barry’s first love. He is pursuing what I consider to be one of the most heroic things any soul can discover — service to others before yourself.
I am not going to list Barry’s resume and all the wonderful things, public and private, he’s done for this City. Barry practices consistent and constant communication, so we already know.
In this election cycle of “recycled” City Hall candidates, Barry stands out, having more energy and steadfast determination than the Energizer Bunny. Working with a team of experts highly qualified to address the challenging issues at hand is essential to move West Haven forward, and Barry’s team will demand that party labels be left at the door.
Please consider supporting Barry this election cycle. Barry has the energy, time, passion, loyalty, ability, and that hardcore Westie Pride that this city so desperately needs.

A reason for running
On July 22, I was honored to be endorsed by the West Haven Republican Party as their unanimous choice for mayor.
Since I announced my candidacy on May 3rd, I have visited nearly 3,000 households. No matter the political affiliation, virtually every neighbor I have spoken with agrees that the status quo of economic neglect, high taxes, and the deteriorating quality of life is unacceptable.
And our neighbors also understand that the America Rescue Plan funding and state assistance for our distressed city are certainly welcome but not sustainable to maintain our parks, playgrounds, infrastructure, and other services.
Yet even with this influx of funds, blight continues to escalate and city services decline, while too high a high tax burden continues to disproportionately fall upon homeowners.
Therefore, accelerating development will be my administration’s absolute top priority to grow our revenue base. And it starts with implementing a comprehensive economic development and strategic marketing plan.
From a shorefront resurgence to revitalizing downtown.
To advocating for a technology corridor that runs from Frontage Road to the train station; and from
Re-imagining the Post Road, to helping to facilitate the now empty storefronts that reside in Allingtown,
The challenges are great, but the potential is incredible!
We should no longer ask ourselves, “Why Not West Haven?” We should no longer be known by countless developers and businesses as the “City of Missed Opportunities,” and “Hard to Do Business with.” Instead, under a Cohen administration West Haven will be known as the city that businesses want to do business with.
As your full-time, fully engaged mayor, I promise to provide Leadership without Excuses. I will be accessible, forthright, and accountable. The days of finger-pointing will stop. Transparency will be practiced, not preached.
Being the mayor is more than balancing the books. It’s also about being present and responsive.
It’s time to put party labels aside. As your next mayor I will not govern by R, D, I, or U—because it’s about us!
On November 2nd I humbly ask to earn your vote and trust.
Barry Lee Cohen, Councilman
Republican Mayoral Candidate
