Older Americans Month celebrated
Established in 1963, Older Americans Month (OAM) is celebrated every May. Led by the Administration for Community Living (ACL), OAM is a time for us to acknowledge the contributions and achievements of older Americans, highlight important trends, and strengthen our commitment to honoring our older citizens.
This year’s theme, Aging Unbound, offers an opportunity to explore a wide range of aging experiences and to promote the importance of enjoying independence and fulfillment by paving our own paths as we age.
This May, join us as we recognize the 60th anniversary of OAM and challenge the narrative on aging. Here are some ways we can all participate in Aging Unbound: Embrace the opportunity to change. Find a new passion, go on an adventure, and push boundaries by not letting age define your limits. Invite creativity and purpose into your life by trying new activities in your community to bring in more growth, joy, and energy
· Explore the rewards of growing older. With age comes knowledge, which provides insight and confidence to understand and experience the world more deeply. Continue to grow that knowledge through reading, listening, classes, and creative activities.
· Stay engaged in your community. Everyone benefits when everyone is connected and involved. Stay active by volunteering, working, mentoring, participating in social clubs, and taking part in activities at your local senior center or elsewhere in the community.
· Form relationships. As an essential ingredient of well-being, relationships can enhance your quality of life by introducing new ideas and unique perspectives. Invest time with people to discover deeper connections with family, friends, and community members.
As the West Haven Senior Center embraces this special month, we encourage members and residents 55–plus years young and up to participate in the Survey for Seniors https://forms.gle/LbMZLgTRA7qhioPE7. The Survey for Seniors will be open until May 31. If you need access to a computer, please visit the WHSC’s Computer Lab, Monday-Fridays from 9-4.

Stay sober this holiday weekend
This Memorial Day, Americans will pause to honor the courageous men and women in uniform who gave their lives to defend our nation’s freedom and security. Whatever plans you have for the long weekend, we invite you to join all of us at Dichello Distributors, Inc. in celebrating our fallen heroes on May 29 and raising a glass in their honor.
For many Americans, the long weekend also represents the start of summer gatherings, and unfortunately it has become one of the most dangerous times of year for drivers on our roads. If your plans involve drinking, remember to prioritize the essential thing that our service members fought to uphold: our safety and wellbeing. Drunk driving is 100% preventable, and we can all do our part to keep our loved ones and neighbors safe by leaving the car keys at home.
Over the last 35 years, Anheuser-Busch and its wholesaler partners have invested more than $1 billion in community-based programs and initiatives to prevent underage drinking, impaired driving and other harmful uses of alcohol. All of us at Dichello Distributors are once again teaming up with Anheuser-Busch, Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) and Uber to encourage all to Decide To Ride by planning ahead for a safe ride home if you are drinking.
Thank you for your support of this shared mission to put an end to drunk driving. We wish you a memorable and safe Memorial Day.
