Columnist Shine keeps a promise
To Our Readers:
October 2024 marks twenty years since I began writing the Historian’s Corner stories. It seems that this would be a good time to recognize the two men who provided the inspiration and example that I would endeavor to follow.
Edward Chase researched and wrote the “Historian’s Corner” (he coined the name for the column) during the 1970s and early 1980s. His was a tough act to follow; his work was ably continued by my father, Bob Shine, until his passing in October, 2004.
A promise is something that you keep: In his final hours I told Dad that I would continue his work; I have, and I plan to do that for the foreseeable future.
Many thanks to Ed Chase and Bob Shine for decades of keeping West Haven’s history alive!
