Celebrations and presentations are kicking off with the United States’ 250th anniversary coming around the corner on July 4. The West Haven surrounding sections of New Haven played one of the biggest locational roles for Connecticut during the Revolutionary War, when Americans were at war with British invaders.
In a joint collaboration between the West Haven Library and the West Haven Veterans Museum and Learning Center, speaker Ed Kacey will be giving a presentation on the British’s invasion of New Haven in 1779.
It was a mix of several thousand British soldiers and Hessians who came ashore in what would be known as the Battle of New Haven. The invasion landings primarily occurred where the Riva is (formally the old Chick’s restaurant) used to be.
“Expect a lot of information about the history of West Haven and New Haven,” said Kacey to those who plan on attending the event.
The free admission event is scheduled for Saturday, July 18th, and will take place at the West Haven Veterans Museum and Learning Center. Unlike previous events that could be accessed online, this will be an in-person presentation only. The Revolutionary War presentation is set to begin at 11 a.m., and will run until 1 p.m., according to the library’s website.
