In this week’s West Haven Youth Lacrosse action, The 3/4 West Haven Lightning took on Cheshire in the rain on Saturday, falling to the Rams in overtime 5-3. Rocco Kelly picked up two goals, and Ethane McGrath picked up the third. Dante Antonucci, Shawn Gilbert, and Andrew Hogan all picked up assists as they worked the ball up the field. Ben Trenchard and Emmett Hemming were strong on defensive, with a plethora of defensive stops and fighting for every ground ball. Ethan Dion had double digit saves in between the pipes as he kept his team in the game and gave them a chance through the overtime period.
May 22, the 3/4 Lightning took on Cheshire, falling 9-2. Anthony Parise was solid in goal, making double-digit saves in a rare loss for the Lightning. Jeremiah McGrath and Charlie Gunning each had a goal, with Dante Antonucci and Cody Young getting assists. The Lightning bounced back to their usual form on Sunday, traveling to Hamden and getting the 8-2 win. Shea Outhavoung’s goal sealed the win, as he added on to the goals scored by Rocco Kelly, Charlie Gunning, Cody Young and Jeremiah McGrath. Ethan McGrath and Andrew Hogan played well on defense, and Ethan Dion came up big in the net.
The West Haven K-2 team traveled to Milford Sunday morning to take on a tough Milford team in a close battle. Ethan McGrath made some key passes, and Jax Guarino and Jadey Hill scored. Emmett Hemming won a few face-offs. Brady Salkins had a pair of goals and assists, as he worked hard up and down the field, contributing on both sides of the ball. Ben Trenchard played well defensively and just missed adding a goal, but he did pick up an assist on one of Salkins goals. Aron Guichard worked hard marking his man on defense, and Benjamin Peretz was aggressive in the offensive zone.
