Lightning tops Thunder in showdown

June 1, 2018 By whvoice

This week’s action started with a midweek game between the two U-11 girls travel teams, the Lacistrong Thunder and the Elite Soccer Camps Lightning.  The girls battled in the rainy conditions, with both teams creating chances.  Sydni Gayle made some key stops for the Thunder in goal, while her counterpart for the Lightning, Kayla Burt, did as well.  Llyanna Griffith-Waite, Andreya Bridges, and Michelle Ceja played well on defense for the Thunder, while Ciara Harp and Amyah Kelly created some key chances on goal and Chloe Whelan scored from the penalty spot.  Alexandria Nunes, Jaylyn Powell, and Jaelyn Beauvais scored for the Lightning, while Niamh Chesson, Sophie Mazuroski, and Annabelle Pasacreta were solid on defense.  Aylin Soto, Molly Gunning, and Ashlynn Trenchard rounded out the hard work with a solid job in midfield in the win for the Elite Soccer Lightning.

The Milano & Wanat U-11 boys hosted Hamden in a league game Friday night.  The Westies came out with a purpose, scoring twice off of crosses from Matt Hunter.  Angel Magana, Yahzeel Beyley and Brian Cruz all scored as the Westies went on to win, 5-0.

In G Division action, the CT Pest Elimination Green Beans played Eli’s Orange, losing 5-2.  Harper Golde and Jillian Crudo led the way for the Green Beans working hard throughout the game. Nylah O’Gilvie and Alexzander Jones did well offensively, passing well and working hard to keep the Green Beans in the game.  For Eli’s Orange, Gavin Lenin played a great game, and Ariel Titus scored five goals, but the whole team contributed to her scoring, proving their is no “I” in team.

The Elite Soccer Camps Red Dragons came out on top against Watson Foods Co, LLC.  Colin Whelan, Charlie Gunning, Nour El Mouki and Julius Stokes all scored.  Alessia Coletta and Salvatore Castagnetto both played hard, and Ben Trenchard had a nice dribbling sequence.  Aiden Slater, Marco Antonucci, Luca Decresenzo and Jax Guarino all put in a lot of hustle in the win for the Elite Soccer Red Dragons.

In F Division Play, Cappetta’s Italian Imports Blue Birds played a fierce game against the Top Hat Dance Academy but came up just short in a 2-1 loss. Jocelyn Kenny was strong and quick, scoring the team’s only goal. Luciana Cappetta hustled and controlled the ball up and down the field while Linette Mendoza Castillo had several great passes to her teammates.  The Apple Rehab Blue Dragons came away with a 3-2 in against the Lions Club of West Haven.  Jayden Abekah, Nathan Almeida, Diego Oceguera, and Luis Ramirez all did a great job on the field. The Seacrest Retirement Center Scorpions beat the Oyster River Energy Autobots in a tight 2-1 game.  In the final game in the F Division, the Dillman & Dillman Adjusters, Dancing Devils defeated the Mulkerin School of Irish Dancing Mighty Leprechauns 4-3.

The Bohemian Body Art Irish Green had a great game this week dominating from start to finish, coming out on top over Cornell Scott-Hill Health Center.  The team was led by a massive offensive attack who never let up throughout the game. Valentina Mariconde recorded a shutout in goal. Cristel Miguel started the offensive charge with two goals early and Kayci Gayle held down the defense by herself in the backfield to allow the team to push forward.  The Rock House School of Music Rockers suffered their first loss of the season to West Shore Family Dental.  They had a strong attack and played well throughout the game, but tired in the second half and their opponents capitalized on this with two goals late in the game. Quennel Nesmith played very well in the midfield. Jovan Lakaj worked hard at striker and recorded the only goal for the team.  Xavier McMillan and Chase Agvent played hard on defense under a heavy attack by the opponent.  The Gunning Law Firm earned a win in a hard fought game against Porto Funeral Homes. Amidst the heavy heat, the girls were able to squeeze out a win. For both teams defense was an issue due to the heat and every girl on the team played important minutes. Sophia Empiric, Braelynn Elliot and Finley Gunning scored enough goals to lift them to the 5-4 win.  The York Business Center Orange Crush played Baybrook Remodelers. They played an amazing game in the first really hot game of the season, but lost, 3-1.  Lila Poincelot and Leeanna Perez both played wonderful in the goal, and Perez also scored the lone goal for the Orange Crush.  Valentina Demartino played an excellent game in midfield, playing strong the entire game!  The West Haven Professional Firefighters Green Machine beat the West Haven Italian American Civic Association, 2-1, with goals from Raymond Listorti and Abdelrahman Osman.  Matthew Pascreta played a great game on defense, and Jeffery Walker did great in goal.

The Stars Ice Cream Green Strikers defeated Elsie Encarnation State Farm Insurance Monday night, 4-3. The Strikers were led by Nina Reed, Nada El Mouki, amd Madyson Ortiz. Aliana Tepetl and Katherine Garcia-Romero played well in goal. The Strikers were back in action on Saturday, winning 6-2 over Dillman & Dillman Adjusters, LLC. El Mouki and Haley Colon each scored, and they were supported Caydance Hill and Camille Merrity, who both played great defense.  The Stowe’s Seafood Blue Eels came up short in a tough loss to Stars Ice Cream in a game that was hot and grueling. Great sportsmanship and effort with the Christensen Triplets, Stephen, David and Paul leading the way and great play on the field by Christian Oceguera and Aiden Mancini.  Excellent defense was played by Adalbert Oceguera.  Stars Ice Cream was led by Myles Ligon, who scored four goals, while Edward Perez added two and Joseph Lakaj added one. The midfield played great, led by Carlos Freire- Zumba, Andy Toledo, David Collazo Jr, Raul Sanchez and Seon Lora. But it was the defense of Alexander Alfonso, Jonathan Gorman, Santiago Rios, Nikolas Hemmings and goalie Jordan Paulin that put it all together for the team as they continue to improve in all areas of soccer. This keepstheir undefeated season intact.
