The West Haven Chapter of Lions Club continued its commitment to local students with its sixth annual School Supplies Drive, collecting and donating a wide variety of classroom essentials for children in need throughout the West Haven Public School District.
This year’s drive resulted in the Club donating more school supplies than in previous years, including backpacks, notebooks, writing utensils, crayons, glue and other classroom necessities.
The collected items were presented to West Haven Family and Youth Services Director Diane Deitman and her assistant Coraly Colon, who will work in collaboration with the Board of Education to ensure that the supplies are distributed to the students with the greatest need.
In a video message posted on social media and YouTube, Club President Steven R. Mullins thanked the residents of West Haven for their continued support year after year.
“Thanks to you, the City of West Haven Family and Youth Services Department can distribute these supplies to those in the most need in the West Haven School System.” Mullins said. “This year, the community was more generous than ever.” Said Club Treasurer Linda Pilgrim, who is a manager at Webster Bank’s Campbell Avenue branch; which served as a drop off location.”
The annual school supply drive is part of the West Haven Lions Club’s continuing mission of service to the West Haven community.
“These materials may seem like simple items, but for a child starting school without them, they can make a tremendous difference.” Said Club Vice President Richard Deso.
